When you quit whining about your ignition (A real badass ADV personage would push his bike 'till the magic box arrived) and make with pictures and narration.

Any of these places you've been have a Casino? That's something I don't think I've seen in one of your adventures, you at a casino. I'm sure enjoying this latest stretch!

today I went to Mongolia.
for 30 minutes.

allow me to explain.......

along time ago (altho it hasnt happened yet, going by my ride report)
I crossed from Kyrg to Kaz (where the soldier was beating people with a stick)

I went thru the customs, where the customs guy musta been 1/2 mongolian, & the Kaz part was probably related to Borat.

Anyhow, he stamps my passport, looks at the bike (Im gonna slap someone someday for asking 'what bike number') enters random gibberish into a computer, & tells me I can go. So, I go.
6 days later, I cross into Russia. I get thru the Kaz side (more of Ghengis's ancestors) and into russia.

The Russia side is easy, puts the bke info into the computer, and off I go. I thought it odd that I didnt get the usual temporary import ducument like in the past, but figured they had a new system, bike was in the computer.

Turns out they DO have a new system, a ru-kaz-belarus trade agreement, and the kaz idiot should have given me the document, which is why the russian guy didnt.

I did ask Walter about this, & he says they should have given me this document. So I get to Kemerovo, and Dominik & I go to the customs place. 'Oh, we cant fix that here' he also said 'you'll be ok without it'
well, he didnt know shit. I talked to Yuri, the shipper in Vladivostok. Seems my bike is here illegally, and if Im stopped, they can impound it until the papers are fixed. Or they may hold it at the border when I leave. These are not the options I was looking for.
OK, time to start looking for a plan B or C or whateverthefuckfixesit!
Needless to say, Im worried that I'll get stopped by a cop somewhere. This has been makin me nervous for 2 weeks now. I was told that I could pay 1500usd to have it fixed. I was also told that maybe I can fix it in Magadan by Walter, but theres alot of cops between me & there.the other option was to leave ru & kaz the same way I came in. WAY out of the way, & my kaz visa is expired now.

I had met up with 6 guys from Moscow doing the BAM road, & told them the story. Pate (from on here) and Misho knew a guy, Serg, in Nishny Novgorod who has some sort of customs connection. We traded msgs yesterday, as he sorted things out with the boss of the customs here at the MGL border.
So I rode down today, in the friggin cold rain. Its bad enough when your in cold rain, but when its because you have to go 500km out of your way to fix someone elses stupidity, it makes it worse.
So, that brings me to the MGL border.
I got here, & had to write a letter showing where I came into RU, & why I dont have this form, bla bla bla
this took awhile. then finally, they said ok, but I have to leave ru, & reenter. So I check out of russia, go 50 yards, & reenter the station.
no, this wont work. I have to LEAVE russia, & get a MGL stamp!
I tell them I have no visa (I dont need a visa, but am hoping they dont know this) Then some short guy with an attitude (isnt it always?) says I dont need a visa since Im from the US.
dammit!
So off I go, to get a MGL stamp.
I just want a stamp, I dont want to enter the country. But do you know how to say that in mongolian? I sure as hell didnt.
Anyhow, I got a stamp.
great! can I go? No, you have to import the bike.
'but I dont WANT to enter, I just needed a stamp!
too bad.
so as you can imagine, a replay of my 09 clusterfuck. I actually had a couple people that remembered me! 1.5 hours later, and I'm free to go with my bike. They had asked me how long I would stay in MGL. when I told em 30 minutes, they just looked at me, & wrote 30 days. oh well. But, once Im thru, its getting late, &
I figure what the hell, I'll get a room for the nite, & return to RU tomorrow. So I got a pocketful of toogaloogs and headed off.
But Im stopped as I leave. Now I need insurance! This is new!
and its about 20 dollars! I said Im going 1km to a hotel, then back in the morning.
too bad. Its 6:30 now, & the border closes at 8. Can I make it back to ru in time?
screw it, lets find out.
needless to say, it was hectic. back thru customs (hey, I TOLD you 30 minutes!) back to the bank to cash out my toogaloogs. back thru the passport stamper. everyone looking at the crazy biker. 'you will come back tomorrow?'
yeah. sure.
back to russia. they are expecting me, & I breezed thru. 8:08 when Im finished. I wasnt the last one thru this time tho, there was avan behind me.

So thats how my day went, 5 hours riding in rain, 5 hours dickin around at the border.

Doug
