That was cool! Nice to have a video presentation of Doug to go along with the written impression I've developed over the months I've been reading his column (can I call it a column?!).

Ride on Doug!!

Very cool video, thanks for posting it.

I don't think I've posted in this thread yet Doug, but thanks for sharing all of your trips, they are some of my favorites to follow. Hope to meet you at Barber one day.

And now for a more serious matter
Have you noticed how Doug spelled backwards is actually G(u)od?

I would hereby officially like to nominate Doug for the position of "Patron Saint of Advrider", as we all know he has already managed several miraculous feats and I for one feels its about time Doug gets the recognition he deserves and begins to climb the ladder towards Godliness.

All who oppose are heretics!

Doug,
How are you and Max getting along/ He seems like the kind of guy that would be nice to have along on a trip down a dicey road .

Safe travels, G

Another unexpected surprise of this trip, the beauty of Kyrgyzstan. Yes, they are vowelly challenged, but donít hold that against them.

But first, I have to pass the 20km of no mans land between the borders. The Tajik border is at the top of a mountain, it was cold in the summer, I cant imagine it here in January. Itís a very lonely outpost, with no electricity, and a couple of shacks, but it did look like a proper building was under construction.
After the border is a pass, then its downhill to the kyrg border, on a really bad dirt road. As its between borders, no one wants to spend the money to maintain it

The border was pretty easy, I was met by Tankutís friendly anklebiter that sent him home to turkey to get rabies shots a few weeks earlier. As I knew he was here, I armed myself with a few rocks, & when he came at me, I nailed him in the side. I missed with the second one, but he got the message. He was a stupid dog tho, as when I went to leave, he came at me again. Soon as I picked up a rock tho, he backed off.

All Iíve done from Tajik is cross one pass, but now everything is green. I hadnít seen green fields in a few weeks. And there were yurts dotting the plains, with herds of goats, horses, cows, and yaks.

I stopped in Sary Tosh, the first town to get gas. Wow, real gas pumps! Electricity! The store had coca cola! And Marlboros!
CIVILIZATION!
(sort of)

I decided to get a room here, as I knew I wouldnít get to Osh today, and I wanted to charge my battery anyhow. I met Danny, a Canadian guy traveling by bicycle, & we went to a local hotel to see about a room. It was basic, no water, but they had electric, & they had a large room with sleeping mats. And it was cheap.

After we had some dinner, we went walking around town. Itís a small town, but the people were all very friendly, & the kids would ask us to take their picture.
And it had an amazing backdrop of mountains to the south.

The next morning there were no clouds, so I went south of town to get a better pic of the mountains. They stretch in a line from as far as you can see, left to right

There was a gang of bandits approaching, should I run? Or wait & see what they want?

I decided to wait. Im a badass harley rider. I can handle it.

They then demanded to try on my helmet, climb on the bike, and relieve me of half a bottle of fanta & some candy I had

Then they wanted me to try out their ride. It was a bit rickety & wobbly, sorta reminded me of an old BMW
