Rock, Stall, Crash, Ok

Last Sunday I was riding back from Cameron Corner in the Aussie desert and I was cruising at about 90kph and a rock flicked up into the bash plate, then my boot on the right hand side of the bike. The engine instantly died as if it had been turned off at the ignition. This is a pretty remote part of the world and I started to freak out about how was I going to get home as I assumed something major had just been smashed. I kicked down a gear to see if it would fire up while I'm still doing about 80 and the rear locked up. The bike started fish tailing and soon I'm sliding along a dirt rd with the bike on it's side. Luckily I slid left and I missed the oncoming 4wd which had pulled to the side to let me pass. Once I dusted myself off and picked up the bike it started as if nothing had happened. I was ok and I couldn't see any damage to the bike at all - not even scratch showing what might have caused the stall.

Any ideas? Is it possible another rock hit the side stand switch?

I wonder if the rock whacked the kickstand or kickstand safety switch and the ECU shut down the bike because it thought the kickstand was deployed?

I know you said it was your right boot and the kickstand is on the left... but ... other than that, I got nut'n ...

It's thing only thing I can think of as well. Even more reason to bypass the switch.

I'm not really sure I understand the sequence of events - the rock hit your bashplate, then your boot, and the engine died right then. But the wheel didn't lock until you changed down a gear? How did it keep rotating between the engine cutting out and you changing down a gear?

Maybe it knocked it out of gear when the rock hit the bash plate.
Friend: That was some trail shortcut. Me: Yep. See how fast we got lost.
