The remap is not the same as a JD tuner, the JD alters the fuel delivery to the injector. It works between the computer and the injector. I have the JD as well, it helped but did not cure my problems with the flame outs.

The bike now runs great and the map switch functions.

Now, go ride!
Thanks for the clarification. Makes sense.

When I asked our local dealer if he could change maps he asked me if I wanted Florida or Alabama and did I want folded or large laminated one for the wall...

Map Info

These are the older maps, the one under the XC-W column is what i have installed

Have your dealer install the EU map for your machine:

DisplacementEXCXC-W
500KM787EU12C0651KM787EU12C0601
450KM781EU12C0651KM781EU12C0601
350KM775EU12C0652KM775EU12C0601

These are the newer Maps, the one i could not get installed, yet!

Again you need the EU unrestricted map, the US map may work but i would still stick with the EU version

USA, XCW > KM787US12C0701 stock, Unrestricted> KM787EU12C0701

USA, EXC > KM787US12C0651 stock, Unrestricted> KM787EU12C0701

Euro EXC, EXCF > KM787EU12C0651 stock, Unrestricted> KM787EU12C0701

Aus EXC, EXCF > KM787EU12C0701 stock, Unrestricted> KM787EU12C0701

You will only get the re-map done by a dealer who has the factory computer, VX-1 unit??? can't remember the name??? not all dealers have this tool, mostly dealers who sell streetbikes as well as the dirt bikes.

Find out if they have the re-programming computer then ask if they have any of the above EU maps available, MUST be the XC-W unrestricted one!!!!!

Good luck, it is worth it even if you do not add the map switch it will make the bike run better.

Hope this helps.

I had my 500 xcw remapped from day 1 with the KM787EU12C0601 map.
As GSeh outlines, that map is now superseded by the KM787EU12C0701
map.
The map switch only alters the ignition, not the fueling.
The stock XCW map is not overly lean like the stock EXC map, but neither will allow the ignition curve switch to work.
You need the EU map for that.

The dealer tool used to remap is the XC-1 tool.

Freight?

Does anyone know what the standard freight charge is in the US for 2014 EXC 500? Thanks.

Mapping

I have the EU 0701 map installed (2012 EXC) and the switch works - you can feel a slight difference in the aggressiveness of the power response. I first had the US 0701 map installed and can confirm the switch does not work.

I also run the JD tuner and now it's set up, the bike performs well. Without the tuner I used to still get flame outs, the occasional backfire, etc.

It took a lot of trial and error and $ messing around but I'm now very happy with the way the engine performs. I also went from standard 15 -45 to 14 - 48 and that was a big improvement for the woods riding. I would ideally have gone to a 50 or 52 rear but will wait until the next sprocket and chain change.

So is it safe to say that any (Orange Level Service) KTM dealer would have this XC-1 tool?

Wow.
Stock EXC gearing is pretty tall,
Raced a little bit agaisnt a uncorked XR650 tonight - I couldn't pull top 6th gear - he would just start to pull away (156km/hr indicated) - then had to down shift to 5th and slowly creep by.
This is will a 2014 stock EXC, stock exhaust, stock gearing, smog equipement all installed, - just with extra 701 map (though no switch installed).

I just finished up desmog, map switch installed, and just checked valves.
Exhaust was .16-.17mm both sides, Intake was .12mm and .13mm. No worth adjusting.

Tomorrow after work should be fun!

Interesting. So it still backfired and flame outs after the EU 0701 map? Was it still backfiring after de smog? I was told you shouldn't need the JD tuner once it was de smoged and EU 0701 map

What kind of oil are you using for break in? Synthetic or regular mineral oil?

Sorry, forgot to mention, the bike was desmogged before remapping and the JD tuner. The desmog made the bike a lot better. Only an occasional backfire but still too many flame outs. JD tuner eliminated these issues altogether. Mapping made the most difference in performance.

The "expensive" "good" "motrex" ktm gold stuff - as recommended by manufacture.

I couldn't wait till tomorrow - took the bike out for a quick spin the dark. Definetly feel a different in roll on power in first compared to the mild and wild settings. The bike may have been running smother due to the desmog also - cant really tell until I get out on a good ride.

May have to drop down a tooth in the front.

I have a 2013 350EXC with the Euro 701 map installed and desmogged. Runs perfect, have not felt the need for a JD Tuner. Make sure your TPS is set correctly and idle is high enough if you are not happy after flashing to the 701 map.

I adjusted the tps on mine but was still having flameouts.

It does seem that every bike is a little different. My TPS was fine, but turning the idle up a little was the last little thing that it seemed to need.

The 500 is better everywhere.....especially in single track. I ride mainly single track and fire roads and can't fault the bike. Great stock suspension, turns well and feels light to ride. Get one.....
