A Maritimer explores Saskatchewan.

Born and raised in New-Brunswick (French Acadian) I worked in many Canadian provinces and in Europe for a few years. 4 years ago we decided to move to Saskatchewan, we now call this place home. Bought some maps, a new camera, a book on Saskatchewan scenic drives, and updated my GPS software on my Blackberry. Hopefully I will have the time do to some of those drives in the next few years and see all corners of this beautiful province. My favourite mode of transportation is motorcycle and this is my my weapon of choice. The R1200GS is perfect to explore the grid and back roads all over this province.

I subscribe to lots of reports and I really enjoy reading them; thanks you to all who take the time to share those with us .

OK, time to start this report...my first Day Trippin”. I've been procrastinating about making a report for the last year.

Sure was a long winter in Canada...lets start the 2011 riding season (only 6 to 7 months left)

Heading south on highway 16, Saskatoon about 40 km away.

Drive by these almost every day but, never read them before.

On the right, the old Borden Bridge crossing the North Saskatchewan River

I stopped at the Langham's Lookout and took a better look at the river. It’s still pretty cold in the morning; in about 2 weeks everything should be green. These pics were taken on the April 25 2011.

Lots of farms along this road.

Hey! what are you looking at! There's nothing to see go Aaaway ?!?!?!? Always funny to see their reactions when they don't know you! The horses didn't care but the donkey sure did.

I love the prairies!

Curves don’t see lots of these around here! Better take a pic!

Old abandon school.

We still had ice on the lakes.

This is Eagle Creek (still on road 376), last year I went fishing in this creek and got a few Northern Pikes.

A few km’s from the Maymont Bridge, I decided I had the time to go to Battleford by following the grid roads on the south side of the North Saskatchewan River. I would then cross the bridge to North Battleford and take highway 16 back home. The grid roads are all over the province and they are usually well maintained. The main roads are maintained year round and the smaller ones are summer roads only.

As I was getting closer to the North Saskatchewan River, I found this little creek.

The beavers made a small dam, next time I have to bring my fishing rod.

The North Saskatchewan River, really nice view.

When I took this pic, I noticed some small flags at the bottom of the hill, so I went to check it out.

I didn't think I could make it

We had lots of snow last winter. I'll come back later this year to complete this ride, too bad. I'm sure it will look a lot different in a few weeks when everything is green.

My bike was still on top of the hill, I had no reason to take the bike down for now.

So I had to turn around but before, I had a small snack, enjoyed the view and took a few more pics from the top of the hill.

Crap… fuel light came on… should I bought an Adventure….I was hoping to make it to a gas station.

What’s up with the tires?

On my way back, I did a small video just to see what it would look like.

For those that do it that way, “bravo” not for me. Camera is too small and my fingers, too big (you can clearly see that in this video!), the buttons are next to impossible to use with gloves on. Helmet cam is to way to go. I’m looking at the Gopro hero 960, the Drift 170hd or the Contour HD. I like the Contour HD because it has a big on/off button on top.
