Sorry to bitch up your photo-op, Dennis, with my Pringles-laiden bike! BTW, I never got to eat them as they were reduced to pringle dust during our spirited ride back to camp!

No worries my friend. I think it actually looks better with the two bikes in the picture.

Sorry to here about you Pringles loss.

Dennis,
Nice to see you again and meet your dad. Let us know when you start your Alaska Ride report so we can follow along. Also, please keep me posted on the August TAT departure. Right now, I am looking at leaving Jellico on or about Friday, August 12th but as you say at the beginning of your ride report, "plans are subject to change". Warren

Saturday

Yep, it was a little chilly Saturday morning.

A lot of bikes were rolling out early.
I think this group had a Ural in front with another riding sweep.

Wait for meeee....

This is the large group that was mentioned earlier.

Here is a link to a higher resolution, 3757x2112 pixel, 2.8MB .jpeg of the above.

On the way to Elkins via Bemis over Shavers Mt.

After they all left, "Walter" wanted to check out the road to Glady. So the two Walters followed me to Glady.

Sitting at the intersection in Glady was scottP, h14xl, and VACommuter. Seems the large group had left them behind. Scotty figured they went straight, so the two Walters and I went with them.

Taking a short break going up Shavers Mt.

Scotty trying to figure out which way go.
And we seemed to have picked up another FF.

Scotty told me to use my ancient inbred tracking skills and tell him which way they went. I said "That a way". So we turn right.

There they are.

Walt was leaving Saturday evening and needed to start packing,
so I said I'd take him through Elkins to US33 and back to Glady the easy way.

VACommuter decided to join us.

We stopped in Alpina for lunch on the recommendation of h14xl.

Very good eats, and free Wi-Fi in the restaurant.
I forgot the food porn again.

The absolutly wonderful little road to Glady.

Waiting for VAC in Glady.

Here he comes.

Headed towards FR14.

I went to Spruce Knob after we got back to the CG and Walter The III followed along.

And of course, I had to show him the Sinks.

Saturday night frolic pics in a day or two.

So sit back, relax, and cook some ramps.

He said it was ramp juice.

GPS Tracking

Did anyone track the route on a GPS? If so are you willing to share?
I am really jealous. Looks like it was a great ride.

This is the route the "big" group took. Once we got to D we went down the mountain (the road isn't on the map but is visible in satellite view), took Back Mountain Road north into Durbin, fueled up, and continued up Jones Run Road/PR15 back to camp. I can convert that to a GPS track later if anyone is interested.

More Photos

I apologize for being such a slug, but I've still got a bunch of photos to post. I made the mistake of shooting almost all of them in RAW, not realizing that photobucket won't take RAW. So I'm putting them in Aperture, dorking around with them a bit, and them uploading them before deleting the images from Aperture.

Some bikes and local color (or lack thereof . . . . )

Around the Fire

What happens at Laurel Fork, stays at Laurel Fork . . . . . .

The Demon's back . . . . .

Since these are just snaps, I played with the shadows to bring what detail I could. Doesn't really look realistic, but what the heck . . . . .

I've heard grouse drumming, but this seems a little different . . . . unless someone's in heat.

A little wiggling going on here . . . .

Think this guy was gonna take a picture of me . . . the nerve!

The only photos I took on Sunday were of Spruce Knob Lake. Nothing special in the way of photos . . . .
