Ate lunch here- yummy!

Then stopped in at the track in Skowhegan to watch some of this before heading home:

Sunrise Trail- Ellsworth to Calais

I'm going to break this part into sections as I took a lot of pics and it will take a while to get them all uploaded.
First of all Shoein went with dtrembley & howling 60 memorial day weekend- I was away and couldn't go- so I sent the camera with him and what I got back was dozens of pictures of this (howling's bike seems to have a bit of an oil leak I guess):

and then there were a (very) few blurred shots of what might have been the trail- how he managed this with a point and shoot that always takes extremely clear pics I'll never know. So needless to say, on Tuesday I dragged him back there for another ride, so I could get some pics. It was a beautiful day and the scenery was gorgeous. We had a fantastic ride. What a great way to see Downeast Maine! We did 260 miles for the day, 85 of it on the trail. From the end of the trail, we picked up the Airline (Rt 9) to fly on back home.

Start of the trail in Ellsworth:

to be continued....

Love your state, especially pre-bug-season... got up to Rangely/Jackman/Greenville/Moosehead last summer - thanks for the pics.

Great Pics Lisa, I keep telling myself I'm gonna take a ride on the trail but never seem to find the time when I am up at camp.

Where is the actual trailhead, is it up behind Wyman's somewhere?
Or is that classified info

Down in Washington Junction, go east on Main ST Ellsworth headed towards Rt 1 and look for the assorted Railroad cars and Dead River Propane terminal...

Dave thanks for giving the directions- I would have had to ask Jerry as he led the way and I just followed. BBQer- I would reccomend going on a weekday before school is out or after it is back in session. The guys went on a weekend and it was crazy with wheelers. The problem is that the trail is narrow and mostly elevated with banked edges and loose/soft stone on the edge- so if you get over too far you are going to end up going down an embankement into the swamp. We only met a few on Tuesday and they were all coming the opposite direction, so not too bad- most places you can see quite a ways ahead and try to plan accordingly. When the guys went they ended up getting behind a group of wheelers (slow and lots of dust) who were either unaware or ignoring them, and they could not get by- there are a few curve's as well, and apparently dan or nate came close to getting taken out by a wheeler coming the opposite direction. We didn't see any wheelers after Machias.

Maine has the last "wide open country" east of the Mississippi. Keep posting pics, and don't forget how good you have it.
