RXV build thread

For inspiration, here is a build thread using the Mecasystems gear I believe:
http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=419251

Not sure about models etc specifically, but Raid Designs makes a bolt on stem mount for the RXV:

Both pictures above are bolted to the frame? Or do you mean drill holes in the head tube and bolt it through the frame?

Mudguts, thanks for the correction, didnt read the thread that closely, I just remember seeing it a while back....

As for drilling the frame, I dont understand why you would want to do that given there is a bolt on option that makes no permanent changes to the bike? Why not have the option to return it to stock if need be when the end result is the same?

In any case, measure the diameter of the head tube, Raid Designs again might have something to suit your needs (60mm/56mm or 51mm/47mm). Failing that, given they have the bolt on RXV part no doubt they would have the measurements and capability to make what you want:

Do you want to make it with the original rally parts, or you want to just build a tower for the bike?

damn.. and I was thinking Im pretty good with the English language.. even lived in Cairns for a while..

anyway,

looking for a nav-tower setup, for rallies, looking to ride, if possible, next years Lybia rally in Morocco..

and might look further for other, nice climate enduro's..
so,
if similar to the original rally/ fairing bracket, thats ok, but not entirly neccesary..
hope this helps?

Better,

So, In order of personal preference I would go with welding, drilling, and bolting.
Solutions. Not knowing the differences in the frame with other bikes, I would go with something that I KNOW it works. Beleive me, you don't want to buy something and run into the endless loop of modifying it. Thumbs up to Rally Raid for stating that before you order anything,

My advice would be to either buy the kit that was made for the aprilia, or buy a bolt on head mount. No other option. No sandwich plates, no clamps. Worst comes to worst and you wanna sell the bike, you replace the head mount with a flat plate bolted onto the head of the bike or leave it be there. Be carefull on how these plates attach to the head of the bike. You have to make sure that the nuts, inside the head, are in little ''nut pockets'' so you check tightness periodically without having to disassemble, or there is a threaded plate at the back. You get the idea.

As far as teh tower is concerned, once again, from my experience, you have to get the fairing and then decide what you are up to. Do NOT buy something and then run into all sorts of problemts because off the parts interfering with the fairing. Try to find what was made for the bike. Otherwise you would have to have the parts with you, try and check. If I was cornered, and there was nothing else I could do, I would ask the companies to give me a ''sheet metal'' flat pattern of their parts, so that I would check interference.

Whatever you do, try future proof it. If for example you manage to find a tower on ebay, it does not mean that after a crash you will be able to find another one.

thanks for the reply,

as Ive statet before,
I want something taht works and not a whole other bike,

the resources here are somewhat dried out, the only option is the original version of the first dakar RXV,
list of nav tower:
1x Balis bracket
1x Road bookholder
1x Road bookbracket
1x Road book adj. supp

1x Fairing bracket
4x Frame clamps
2x Frame neck bracket
1x Spacer 57 mm
2x Spacer 62 mm
1x Tank neck bracket
1x Fuse holder
1x Headlight support L+R

as you see, the bracket is clamped onto the frame,
I would prefer bolted and if that doesnt work, welded..
the above would be about 400.- ex VAT.

I'm also looking at ZT-rally's bracket, which looks the part, but dont know how its in real life,,

other thoughts..?

The original bracket (the one on the black bike) is so well clamped onto the frame. I have never seen before such a clamping system. It does not only use u-bolts and it will not be able to rotate in a crash as it uses a fixed part thhat sits onto the frame to prevent rotation. As I said I can have anothel good look, the above are just from memory. It looked pretty solid to me though.

When you say ''the above cost about 400 Euro'' . You mean the parts that you have on the list?

Nothing wrong with your english! D has it all covered. With a round head tube it would not be difficult or expensive i would think, to design a stem to either bolt or weld on. It would then be a matter of deciding what you wanted to do with the rest, full fairing? Which type? Rally lite setup? Which headlight/mini fairing? Im liking the hdpe setup that HDB has posted in this thread. I dont think it would be difficult to adapt Paul's tower to a fairing or use his lite setup. All depends on what you want.
