Tony Schatt's switch is cheaper than the F2R and it has been used to prove its ability. Touratech's ridiculously simpler five button switch costs as much as Tony's. But Tony does not produce in batch numbers so I guess the price could go down a little bit if somebody produced in quantities. Then again it is not something that you change often so you only spend once. A good idea (have no idea about the electronics ) would be to have a switch that works with both IMO's and ICO's and a number o roadbooks. May be the addition of an external circuit to allow this? That way, the rider that switches from IMO's to ICO's should not buy a new switch and put on the shelf 300$ (the switch) and another 400$ ( the ICO ) just because he changed to IMO's or because he changed to Touratech (not a lot of guys would do that but anyways .. )

The design is not that difficult to do, if anybody has access to a 3dprinter (GatosBros ? ) then you can test the ergonomicss before going metal to keep the costs down as you can build as many prototypes as you need. I think it is the CNC which keeps the costs high. It is aluminium so it has to be CNC for the production numbers we are looking. I think everything points to make use of polyethylene here

If I wanted to make ergonomic switch mounts, I'd shape them by hand and then cast them out of aluminum. Would be a fun project, but Paul's switches work great for me (only have start/kill switches mounted on my bars). If there's anything specific that you guys want/need, let's talk about it though. Oh, and yeah, we can have 3D parts printed at pretty reasonable prices if you guys want to test any CAD designs, but this is one of those rare cases where I probably wouldn't use SolidWorks.

This like the switch I have one on the right, I would like two more switchs. Below the main three , hi-beam- dip (latching) horn (momentary)
Its pretty simple and useful then month in indicator as per beaneys switch .

Try using Google SketchUp, have not spent much time on it myself, but have heard good things about it.

I have copies of both solid works and auto cad for PC, more than happy to drop round if your new to either. Although I think sketch up may be easier I haven't spent much time with it. I use some guys in thomastown to water jet out parts. Depending on what your after they may be able to help. Gany I think used them for some parts. Also I have a good supply of delrin which is good for prototyping so maybe we could build it out of that for a start. A thought anyhow.

We'll have go out riding seeing how we are close I'm in sydenham now so not far at all . I've being think of doing rally training between a couple of riders

were we each take a turn making a roadbook with RB editor and google maps to a destination , wont be spot on but should be good enough.
I have a route set out its about 800km from warburton to licola and back

Does anyone know where to get a lead that converts the stock square ktm speed sensor to the round ico trip meter plug?

I've had a look on the ico website and could only find a complete sensor cable.

Google Sketchup is where it's at if you're looking for something that's free and easy to learn how to use. Shouldn't take more than an afternoon to get the hang of. Download and take it for a test-drive. Designing something like one of these switch mounts would be a prefect first project.

Personnlly I've gone back to using the setup below for the simple reason that the toggle switch's get broken, and with the billet switch's its a sealed unit and you have to replace the whole unit, they can be repaired but its not a 5 min job

I will carry a spare toggle rb and ico switch on the bike and can replace either in 5 mins, in a 4-500 k stage I would rather stop and replace a switch than ride for a couple of hours at speed having to reach up and scroll the rb manually




This is just my opinion from experience and dosent detract from the quality of the f2r switch or other billet switch's

I've always worked on the principal of if something fails in a rally, can it be prevented from failing again, if not then can it be designed to be quickly and easily replaced

Autodesk Fusion is another one which I think it is better than sketch up, you can see what it can do in youtube. Fusion is free until April 2o13. Every year they release a free version so the next one will be until April 2o14 and so on ... You can find it in Autodesk Labs site ...
