Hey Matt...

Thanks for putting the idea of Death Valley in my head at the last Meet and Eat. I'm heading there next week.

Out initial plan was Saline Valley, but it looks like it is closed. It looks like a lot is closed...

I have all week off and need a ride. Planning on camping in DV and doing day trips to see the sights. Any other recommendations?

I remember you saying there was a great ride out of Bakersfield. Was that Walker Pass?

Shoot me a post of PM me with some beta.

Cheers,

Jeff G.

I don't think so. There've been several recent ride reports in the area, and you should be able to get to Saline Valley without much trouble. Check out a few of the threads, should be doable. Although there have been some rain/snow in the last couple days. Seems like the CLOSED signs are just suggestions.

I just found the Saline Valley forum. Looks like a D7 dozer went in there yesterday and the graders have been working hard. I think we will be able to get there.

Now I just have to get to the East side. I was planning to go to Truckee/Reno and stay with friends and then head down 395. I am meeting up with a guy in Truckee who is coming, or else I would head to Bakersfield and then up. I will probably come home from SV/DV via Bakersfield.

Anyone have a good route from DV back to the Bay? PM me with info...

JG

(Edit: This is probably not the right forum for this. Will move. Cheers all)

Hey Jeff, done.

It was not what some folks would call an "epic" adventure, but it was super for me. I was riding alone except for some sport bikes in company in DV itself so I limited my off-road to Sunrise/Titus.

That said really I took my time and ran out of same.

Have a safe trip. If you are camping and need any Campingaz CV270/470 canisters let me know I have a few full ones that have been gathering dust for years. I'm off the 580 in San Leandro. Can lend a single burner for the CV's as well.

Cheers.

December meet?

Hi folks, any news on a December meet? I think folks were thinking Concord and I might see if I can meet up with our Rotax tuner "Catfish" at the same time, perhaps he will join in.

Meantime think Jeff went to DV recently would be interested to hear his routes. If there is a meet up I will try to remember to bring a paper map so we can ooh and ahh collectively.

Cheers and merry crimbo if we don't see y'all.

The North Pass to Saline Valley had about 18 inches of snow on it, so no Death Valley :(

I ended up doing a solo trip to Benton Hot Springs and Owens Valley (where I found some petroglyphs), camping in the Alabama Hills outside of Lone Pine, riding Walker Pass, Old Coalinga Rd, Hwy 25...

It was a great 5 days that started with yet another 950 breaking down...

I swear I'm not going to travel in the future with anyone who has a KTM...

Cheers all, and see you at the next meet,

Jeff G.

Eek December

What's up? Are we (still) planning on doing the Lazy Dog this Wednesday (11th)?
What time?
Have I got it wrong (quite possibly)?
Should I show up anyway?

Four days, knaves! Yes, that's Wednesday December 11th. Except for Kevan, who was there last week. . Time: 6pm to whenever. Lazy Dog, Concord.
(Do I really need to put up a map?)

I'm going to try and get there early to grab some spots out front.

Back in the USA

Hey All.

Just back from Spain (and Morocco and Gibraltar) and my suitcase even caught up with me. Yay. Plus the NSA didn't impound my Iberian ham. Double Yay!

Yep, Wednesday the 11th, Lazy Dog, as usual around 6:30 and, as usual, I will probably just drive as I am a girlie-man and don't like cold weather.

Looking forward to see you all. Be safe and warm.

Peace

Kevan

No, but those drones overhead are tracking that ham...

Oh, also, your trip sounds great! (Pics or it didn't happen)

Geez, a bunch of ADV'rs going to the "mall" for a Meet & Eat.

Just kidding, though you've got admit it sounds a bit lame. What the heck, I'm in since I've got a reason to drive over there tomorrow afternoon anyway. Will be driving my newish to me ADV-van.
