So how does the quality of these old trucks compair to todays trucks?

Is todays stuff disposable? Or do you guys see a 2011 Ford 150 lasting for 30, 40 or 50 years?

I dont see the bodies lasting that long. It seems like all cars are made of a much thinner and cheaper mix of steel.

I think the newer trucks are built plenty tough, but I think the main reason that older vehicles have survived longer is because they are easier to maintain- along with the fact that I think our society in general is becoming a lot stupider technologically... Yes, we all know how to USE fancy gadgets, but do we know how to fix them? In 20 years, how many people are going to be able to find a broken down truck and say, "Hey, I've got all the diagnostic tools to hook up to that vehicle, I can fix that!" We've become a throw-away nation. If its broke, take out a loan and buy a new one. I can't believe some of the cool stuff I find in our local salvage yard. In fact, I'm due for another visit.

Off my soap box now, back to the TRUCK. Guess what?! Harbor Freight sells tools that actually work! Spot weld cutter worked like a charm. Drill, bend the panel out a bit with the pliers, hammer the screwdriver between the sheets for the stubborn spots. Took me about 5 minutes.

Tools;

I've had success using a painters 5 in 1 tool instead of a screwdriver. Just make sure it's a sturdy one so you can tap it in.

Well, my boys went up to Canada with Grandma and Grandpa for a week er two, so I'm hoping to get some work knocked out. ZERO progress so far this week... Took my one son out for his first "real" ride (my youngest wasnt feeling well), think he had fun.

Just need to get all this crap finished, then I should be good to go.

Good thing my wife doesn't read ADV. She would kill me for even asking! I know how much those Triumphs bring on the east coast... how special are they in ID?

Why?

Saw this bed sitting in the field a week ago, finally caught up with the owner today. Bed wasnt in very good shape, but he had some other bits left over from his '75 F250 resto. BEAUTIFUL job! Thing looks like its brand new. Anyways, he had one thing I've been looking for- a visor! Brand new, in the box. For the price of the visor, he also threw in 3 doors, 2 fenders, and a back window with a good seal and chrome trim.

Box in the field...

Parts!

Well, my alarm has been going off for the last hour and a half... guess I need to get up and do something with the truck while the weather is sort of cooperating. Dont you hate alarms that have no snooze?

I wonder if that job (like most others) ever gets old?

The grip is astonishing, and this is achieved not by a Star Trek computer but by simple, mechanical design thoroughness. It works and doesn’t need anything to help it.
