. . . I could hear the rain pelting my tent in the morning but then the sound changed to something softer.

Snow!?!?

Oh geesh - this is gonna be a brutal ride home.

Park, Jack and I rode about 20 miles through some weather and happily stopped at the Summer Lake Lodge for breakfast. I ate as slowly as possible hoping things would warm up.

Jack sportin' his Frogtoggs, preparing for the weather ahead. (It's not any warmer)

Fully warmed up and a decent breakfast in us we head back into the weather on the stinkin' PAVEMENT

We only get another 40 miles or so before the impending SNOW storm and pull off to wait this one out.

Jack is not in church but he's on his knees warming up on the 950 SE.

My sentiments exactly Park.

Unless I get a Goldwing, I'll NEVER ride the pavement down there again. If I had a decent tire on the 950, I would've much rather ridden back with the thumpers.

Still . . . good fellas, nice soakin' and the KTM does haul ass!

Yes, we eventually made it into Paisley and the Pioneer Saloon. Next time you pass thru there get some of this:

And this stuff...

I'm not sure how this conversation started, something about parking spaces vs. no parking spaces:

General rowdiness:

Quite a pile of bikes out front:

Once we were all good and liquored up we rode back to the springs. Good thing it's a real short distance. We got good and loud in the pools and suddenly people started dropping like flies. We tried our best to hassle N2moto about his crap tent set-up job. He kept telling us to go away or he was gonna get out his gun...

The offenders:

It was a pretty ugly scene, but about to get uglier:

Yes, tough guy Jack wasn't so tough when the Fireball, Tilt and Maker's Mark took hold.

The funny thing is is that the next morning everyone was talking about poor Jack and the puke fest. I SLEPT RIGHT THRU IT ALL!? Nobody could believe it! Wow, guess I had a few too.

So there's nothing like a soak in the hot spring to re-infuse the body of all the lost nourishment from the previous nights frivolity. People kept wandering into the barn that the hot spring is in talking about how bad the weather was getting outside. They were not kidding. Heinous.

Everyone starts packing and rolling out. Some were headed into Paisley for breakfast and others, mostly the big bikes, were heading north on Hwy 31. Either way it was gonna be ugly.

Puke boots...

I didn't wanna get out of the nice warm water, hence I was a little slow getting packed up. Not as slow as this guy though...

Monkey should really move to Mexico. Everything kinda moves at his pace down there.

I settle up the camping fee with Duane and roll into Paisley for breakfast, wearing all the clothing I have with me on my body. Sure makes for easy packing. Pelting graupel snow and 70mph with no facemask is kinda painful. Got pretty wet in 6 measly miles. Anyway, Neffr and I sit down for an overpriced buffet at the Homestead Cafe and we're wondering what the state of affairs is with Monkey back at the springs. I'm thinking he's not gonna show without someone going back to get him so Neffr volunteers to ride back up to the springs. I wait... and wait... and wait. Eat a little more buffet, drink about my 28th cup of coffee, eat some blueberry cobbler and lo and behold I hear a bike out front. ONE bike. I go out and ask Neffr where Monkey is and he says he's right behind him, which he was.

Apparently Neffr got back to the springs and Monkey was BACK in his tent FRICKIN' SLEEPING! Now, he's been down to the springs before, but I'm pretty sure he would have had a hard time getting home, via the dirt route, without a little help. Mexico is calling.

Me, sitting in the cafe waiting. My camera lens was fogged.

We finally roll out, Fandango Canyon awaits...

Great directions, it was a shit storm until I reached Fandango then the sun came out and it was perfect all the way to CV (then it got crappy again).

Monkey was TIRED! LOL!

I woke up and EVERYONE was GONE!

And, it was freaking SNOWING!

So Monkey went back to sleep.

He figured he'd just ride home alone.

Then NEFFR came back and ROUSTED my ass outta bed.

Fandango Canyon is, well, rocky. And it seems to get rockier everytime I ride it. Stands to reason I guess because most of it turns into a riverbed during the wet season. There's actually two "Fandango" routes, "good" Fandango, and "shitty" Fandango. We chose the shitty option. I personally feel it's a little more scenic.

Cobblestone anyone?

Didn't see any wild horses or burros out here this time around...

Monkey lost his tent off his bike...again.

From here we went back into Christmas Valley, fueled up the bikes and grabbed some food at The Feed Barn. I think it is a better option than The Lodge myself. The burgers do not disappoint.

Weather to our north was NOT looking good at all, so we opted not to go over Green Mountain and instead did a bunch of slab towards the powerline outside of Fort Rock. It was cold, and bombing down the highway at 70 was making it much colder. Luckily for me my Mountain Hardware fleece beanie fit perfectly underneath my helmet.

Once we hit the powerline there was no stopping. We were getting pelted by graupel off and on and when we finally got to East Fort Rock OHV area again it looked like this. WTF?

THEN it turned into this:

The snow was totally sticking to our goggles. I was having to wipe my finger across about every 100 feet or so!

Brad, that is a hilarious ride report! The pic of Matt sticking his noggin out of the tent about had me spewing my morning coffee!
