Went on a week long ride with some 4-wheeler friends in the U.P. I had a plated bike, but they needed a police (you can just see the cop in front) escort across the lift bridge in Hancock.

Info here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portage_Lake_Lift_Bridge

An old R-R bridge.

Checking out the underside.

Bicton Mill on the Lynher, luscious and on a beautiful road too. In fact the road would be worth the ride even if bridges hadn’t been invented. Not sure how you’d get there, mind.

Lot of bridges and a leat.

The purpose of the gulley is less than clear at this stage, as the English Master used to say when getting us to parse sentences, “What work does it do?”

Much more here

While a picture may well be worth a thousand words there is no substitute for being there, so do get there when you can.

Looks like a nice area MnMoto, can you be more specific on the location? Also, could a cruiser ride the roads in that area (V-Star 650)?
I can handle maintained gravel roads, but the suspension in the rear of my bike hates off roading. My V-Star lacks footpegs and the floorboards are difficult to stand on.

It was several years ago and I'm not sure exactly where the bridge is. I was riding up the Sawbill Trail out of Tofte MN and I camped at the Temperance River Campground in the Superior National Forest. The roads were well maintained gravel roads. You could ride them on anything. There were many smaller tracks that were less maintained, but there's plenty to explore up there on your V-Star.

Here is a picture of the Sawbill Trail:
