Wink Coffee, Motorcycles, and Wine....in that order!

Here I sit. In a Starbucks somewhere between my campsite last night and Seattle, Washington. Flew in here yesterday to pick up out ongoing motorcycle trip.

LOVE TO RIDE! 30+ years of it has made the "commute" out of Denver, CO a chore, and it has become increasingly difficult to go ride places further and further away.

Partly my own idea and eventually solidified later by others like the "Möbius" thread, I bought a second set of dedicated travel bikes for Jeska and myself. A nice little set of KLR650s.

We started the trip in June 2011 with a ride to Vancouver, BC from our home in Denver. We then left the bikes with a fellow rider in Seattle. If you want to read the original ride report for that ride it's on the klrworld forum. Here.

http://klrworld.com/forums/index.php/topic,19558.0.html

I'm back in Seattle as of yesterday to do some maintenance on the bikes. Jeska will fly in tomorrow and we will continue the journey down the Oregon and California coasts into San Francisco. Where we will store the bikes with a friend and fly home again.

Flying into Seattle!

Though some of you inmates might be interested in tagging along virtually or participating at some point. Would love to meet people from the forum along the way when time permits.

We (Jeska told me I had to) started a blog about it too. Here...http://coffeemotorcycleswine.blogspot.com/

The title came from our seemingly daily ritual. Get up, find coffee, ride motorcycles, have wine.

After flying in yesterday. I inventoried our bikes, made a to do list and then set up camo for the night.....well, after trying a couple of closed state park camp grounds to find an open one.

Doh!

Found one open just 10 miles down the road!

Not sure if anyone is still following. But, if you are sorry I did not get a post in yesterday. We got stopped by massive rain in Forks, WA.

Our plan to camp further down the road was foiled. Forks was our limit for the night. Not a single hotel room in the town! Found a lady with a room for rent behind her Nail Salon! Worked out great, she lete us use here garage for the bikes, dry our stuff in her dryer and barrow her truck to drive to diner in the rain!

Still pouring rain this morning. Road 300 miles today and 200 of that was in the rain!

Camping tonight was foiled by soaked camping gear and a water logged cell phone...grrrrr!

Will post some more pictures tomorrow. Here is just one from today. The roads and scenery were fabulous!!!.....and nearly zero traffic!!

Can't wait to see the ride down the coast! That's one that is on my bucket list and will hopefully happen soon if I can get through interviews for these silicon valley jobs.

Your subject line is absolutely perfect. Few things in life that I love more than coffee, motorcycles and wine... My man and my dog top the list.

Have a great trip. I will enjoy reading it!

This morning is going to be a bit of a photo story.
Here is where we started out yesterday. This is Karen's garage in Forks, WA. She has a Nail Salon there and a room for rent if you ever need one in the area.

Still pouring rain!. Will have do several edits here to get all the pics in from my iPad this morning.

After a long time in the rain we came to our firt spot where we could see the coast!

Stopped for coffee and met Ivan from Switzerland. He spent the last 4 weeks riding this rental WeeStrom around the coast. Cool guy. Sat and chatted with him for quite awhile.

Says he rides an Africa Twin at home.

After 300 miles (200 in the rain) we stopped in Lincoln City, OR for a little rest and a treat!

Cheers!

Today's ride should be awesome!

Okay, I've been slacking something fierce here.

First thing that should be noted is that gear that is "Waterproof" in Colorado is NOT "Waterproof" in Washington

That lead to a few technical difficulties along the way. (My cell phone looked like an aquarium).

Anyway. Here are a bunch of pictures from along the way.

This is what the road looked like for nearly 1,300 miles. Nearly perfect pavement and almost zero traffic. We were alone for almost 95% of the time. This was honestly the biggest hurdle for getting the play by play posted this leg of the trip. We were having soooooooo much fun riding that we nearly forgot to stop some days. There were a couple of days where we rode until we could not go further because of darkness and fog. Covering way more miles than we had intended and actually found ourselves in San Francisco 2 days early because of it

So for the next leg, I swear I will stop having "too much fun" and take a break long enough to post the pictures sooner.

This was the start to the "Avenue of the Giants" its a scenic byway to 101 in California that winds through about 70 miles of Redwoods. AWESOME!! Never saw another car.

Some of the spots on the coast are just amazing.

This was apparently a popular local spot. So we stopped to enjoy some local food!!

While I'm sure a beer or wine would have gone well with this, there is a strict no alcohol on the bike rule that we follow!!

Oysters...

That oyster joint wouldn't have happened to be in Jenner, CA. would it? There are some fantastic roads in along that stretch of 101.

San Francisco was a lot of fun. We apparently picked the most popular gay hotel in the city. (Not that there is anything wrong with that). I waled into the lobby of this "3+ star" place wearing my insanely yellow jacket, bright helmet and two panniers and I did not stand out AT ALL!! I was by far the least interesting thing to see in the hotel. Jeska and I were the odd couple out in this place. All nice, just interesting. I would have taken some pictures but not sure any of it should be posted here

Soo..here was our luxury valet spot in the alley way garage.

Just an interesting San Francisco biker sitting along the road.

MMMMM.....Soy Latte in San Francisco. (at a Breakfast/Laundry place)

Had an awesome diner at a Brazilian Steakhouse called "Bossa Nova". If you get there, eat there!!

I would have to look back at the map to see. It was about 80 ish miles from San Francisco.

Thanks.

We need to head back soon and do another leg of the trip.

Jeska says she is not quite done with that part of the country. So maybe a fun run down through Death Valley and then next spring start heading back north.
