It's common knowledge. If you'd asked the question then, you'd have got that answer.

Yaaa I suppose... was distracted by the 5month ride I was on and knew the USB was only temporary, till I got the rugged, yet it would have been nice to know...
Thanx, in the future I'll look to you guys.

More of a generic garmin question I suppose, but since its Montana related...

I moved recently and can't find my USB cable. I don't know anything about this sort of thing, but I do know that it had a little box on it. Not as simple as a generic USB. Is there something I need to know to source a new one without going online or should I order a genuine garmin cable?

Thanks

I can't remember the last time I had a problem with a generic usb cable. All bets are off if it came from a dollar store, though.

So the black box is only needed in a cockpit

My guess is it's a choke to reduce RF interference. If you don't lay your cellphone down on top of it, you should be OK.....

If you are an REI member you should have received a coupon code for 20% off any item.

And if past experience is anything to go by, those coupons explicitly *EXCLUDE* GPS devices. YMMV, but that's the way it's always been in the past with REI sales and special offers.

Yup, just checked REI.....

"Discounts not valid on hardshell boats, stand up paddleboards, any item with GPS technology, personal locator beacons, avalanche airbag packs, skis, ski boots or ski bindings; snowboards, snowboard boots or snowboard bindings."

Still they are a good place to buy stuff since they have a "No Questions Asked" and "No Time Limit" return policy.
