Following along where ever you ride.
Will you be coming over to Africa as well?

To be honest I do not know yet. Originally that was my plan, but I have enough to consider finishing out this year riding to the end of South America. On the ride down I will start to develop the next part of my ride, after I see how my time and money work out for my trip.

Will let you know ..... Cape town would likely be the point of entry into southern Africa!

Well however it works out will be good.
But if you do come you won't be disapointed. We have some stunning routes here in the Western Cape.
I might even lead you into The Hell!

Radioman, glad to see you are doing better. You have the same priorities as I do.

My first trip is going to be South America, the second India.

I make frequent weekend trips on the bike in the summer down your way If you are ever on Whidbey this summer I would love to take you for lunch or a coffee. Or maybe on one of my trips further south.

Rest up and keep posting pics!!!

I started my ride on June 4th with a ride to the Oregon coast with Camogreg (and the start of his cross country ride!) I am now on my 9th month on the road (about 38,000 miles), 6 months of which have been outside the US.

Had a plan when I left, but always knew that it would change as I progressed. That is what my expectation has always been.

I slowed down my ride in South America, because I needed more time to explore and have enjoyed 2 months in Colombia and 5 weeks in Ecuador. In doing so, it has substantially changed the timing of getting to Ushaia in Argentina, which will be heading into winter soon. That means I now have until November/December/January to ride to the end of the road.

To share a bit more of my story, and motivation to my change of plans.

Years ago, Chanderjeet traveled to the US with sponsorship from the generous contributions of time, hospitality and money of many advriders, it was called the International Friendship Ride! I had the pleasure of meeting CJ, and a brief ride out to the Oregon coast for lunch before Camogreg escorted him further south. I told him then, that I planned to come ride in the India and specifically the Himalayas, after reading his amazing ride reports and seeing his photos! Thanks CJ for the inspiration!

Seeing sights like this....

Here is my new plan:

End of March I have a friend flying down from Oregon to go to the Galapagos Islands for a 6 day cruise, and some days exploring this unique place. Then I will fly back to Oregon so that I can start the Visa process for India, get my taxes done (yup, I am a responsible US citizen), handle a few other issues, and then mid May (depending on several factors) fly to India buy or rent a bike for couple months depending on how all my plans go. Then return to Ecuador to pick up my bike and continue exploring Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Possibly Brazil…..

That is my new plan…. which is now set in place. Tickets purchased back to the US, arrangements made to store my bike securely in Ecuador and a slightly new direction!! (of course it is open to change ……as always when on a great adventure!)

Let the Ride Continue!!

Perfect! Northern India should be nice heading into Spring /Summer.
Returning to S. America in Fall (their Summer) is ideal. Nov. Dec. are great travel months for the TDF area. Northern Argentina can be very hot, so just a heads up. Hope you get time in Peru' and Bolivia. Fantastic. I was very sick in both countries, but 100% worth it anyway. But take care of your health. (so many take it for granted!)

I've read accounts on HUBB and elsewhere of one or two stored bikes in Ecuador gone missing when left with supposedly trustworthy "Adventure Friendly" business people, this 6 or 7 years back. Al from the Turtleshead (now in Colombia) may have details/advice. Do take care.

March 12 Quito

OK... Now that my new plan is out there, my trip is sort of different.

After being sick, and still catching up from the impact on my body. James and I have just stayed in Quito to relax and recover. Sort of in a holding pattern for my cruise in the Galapagos, which will be a "Vacation" in the middle of this journey. Then I will be flying home. It feels very strange that I will actually be home in about 3 weeks. And my bike will be stored away here in Quito.....

Just a few things around Quito.

Young James and Hector fooling around. But young James was feeling a bot worse for wear and crashed out most of that day.

I did take Hector up to eat at Guido's Restaurant. Las Choris. But Guido was not at work.... bummer we missed him.

Hector said; Wow the sandwich is huge..... but then proceeded to eat the entire sandwich.

Did do some errands around town. At the MegaMaxi (large grocery store). Liked the parking signs :)

and you have to check in your helmets ..... while you shop!

Spending time today sorting out my gear, some I will take home, but most will be packed up and I will store here. Just normal planning and travel stuff. Also having to go buy some Motor oil, Stabil and a few other supplies to get my bike ready to sit awhile. Always lots of Logistics to take care of during a change in the plan. When on a long ride, you get into a rhythm of riding, packing etc, and this bit of time that is all changed.
