September 21, 2011 Lake Oswego to Roseville, CA
On the Road Again. After a very brief stop at home to switch to the F800GS and connect with friends.... I'm off!
Getting ready for the next part of the journey as been hectic getting the bike packed and ready for the next 1-2 years. But I was ready last night, and decided it was time to take off my watch..... No longer need to be on the clock ![]() ![]() Also cleaned the bugs off my Helmet, put on a new face shield, and new internal pads. Just like new! ![]() Was up early to meet with my good friends like we have done over the past 16 + years. Sharing our faith, encouraging one another to be the best Men we can, and sharing our lives together. ![]() They have been supportive for many years. ![]() The clouds we in a big layer.... to the south it is blue sky! ![]() Gas prices on my way through Oregon. ![]() Rode the slab south. MT Shasta was looking good! ![]() Rolling along the road. My Spot GPS locator on my sleeve. ![]() IceCreamSoldier had PM'd me with an offer to stay on my way south. He had been encouraging as I cared for Chris, and knew I needed to meet him and his family. So Roseville was my stopping point for the day. 575 miles from home. I rode into his driveway and was greeted warmly with a parking spot in the garage. ![]() We had a great evening with a great dinner Paul cooked, and time spent meeting his kids and Wife Jill. to ICS Family!! What a terrific way to start the next part of my trip! ![]() ![]() During the evening Paul asked me if I would be willing to speak to his daughters 4th grade school as the "special Guest" in the morning before heading south. Of course, this will be a fun way to share the trip!!

September 22, 2011 Roseville, CA to Paso Robles, CA
Started our morning with a smiley face coffee mug
![]() Interesting reading material in the bathroom. ![]() Maybe these things will come in handy ![]() ![]() Not sure that I will need this one ![]() ![]() After a fabulous evening with IceCreamSoldier and family, and the stage set for a morning sharing my ride with Mrs Garcia's 4th grade class, we had another surprise for Pauls daughter. She would get to ride to school on "Radioman's Bike" ![]() she the first and only passenger to ride on the bike ![]() off to class we go. ![]() Paul gives the class a kind introduction ![]() Fortunately I had a set of maps with me..... So I was able to explain the journey and route. ![]() The kids had some great questions about the trip. It was refreshing as they had many practical questions and lots of smiles. How do I carry water, What if I run out of Gas, what food will I eat, How log will it take, Will you get lonely, What if penguins attack you . It was a really fun hour to share! Then outside to actually see the motorcycle. Explaining what I had packed and answering questions! ![]() This was a wonderful time to share with kids!! Thanks Paul for setting this up!! ![]() Hopefully we can keep a dialog with the kids going from other parts of the world...maybe skyping from another 4th grade class somewhere else in the world![]() Then Paul road with me along the Sacramento River to share a bit of the area. ![]() ![]() and Paul is an owner of a 2006 R1150 GSA SE ... one of the few and the proud ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Then a stop at a historic town of Locke where Chinese immigrants ![]() A few words with Confucius ![]() Then we said goodbye for now. ![]() Off to meet up with Nixel in Oakland for lunch. Into to the California traffic. ![]() Find Nixels new loft space. ![]() Of course a photo to say we got together! Great seeing you again Nicky ![]() ![]() ![]() South of Hollister, and out into the California countryside ![]() ![]() Riding late to meet up with Ace Ralph and family ![]() Once again another gracious and friendly ADV family welcoming me into their home. ![]()

September 23, 2011 Paso Robles, CA to Quartzsite, AZ
Spent the morning with Roger and his family. It was a really great time to get to know them, share stories of life and this part of my journey. Thanks
![]() Mileage: 500 riding miles today. Sunny and Hot as I rode across California, through Mojave Desert and into Arizona. Was 104 + degrees as I rode into Needles, CA . Stopped riding at 8PM and it was still 96 degrees ![]() ![]() After a fabulous breakfast including Bacon I was off across Hwy 58.![]() Fortunately with a radar detector and the courtesy of other motorcyclist sharing the hand signal patting the top of the helmet, we thwarted the efforts to raise revenue by the state patrol ![]() California has some amazingly diverse terrain. Road through an area with lots of oil pumping going on. ![]() Rolling through Mojave and Barstow heading east.... ![]() only in California do the wheelbarrows have Mag Wheels ![]() ![]() Gas prices in Needles, CA. ![]() Sunsetting over Eastern California. ![]() Stopped at a motel in Arizona. IdahoSam is about 150 miles east of me.... We will meet up in the morning for a ride south to Tucson! ![]()
