Nothing stirs a mans soul like an adventure!
As I have been preparing and planning for this ride, the excitement about the next chapter of my life, and this great adventure, it has become clear to me that this kind of adventure for a man is very special.
It stirs the soul like nothing else! As I get the first couple days of my adventure started, it feels great. still many details to get done before I am actually on the road full time, but this was a great start. Riding for my has always been about the passion I have found in the total concentration needed while on the bike. Other thoughts slowly fade out of mind as I take in all the senses. We had the warmth of the day, the change in temperature going out to the coast, the smells, of fresh soil, ocean, sawmills, rain all very strong on my journey this past couple days. Not yet ready to go, as I have to re-organize and settle in on the right combination of gear and how it will be packed and accessed. It was a bit of a shake down ride, and I have work to do! ![]() of course this new adventure will take me down many new paths.... ![]() .

My mid-life crisis hasn't run it's course yet.
![]() Mark, Thanks, Man! What a blast. I always enjoy riding together. Oh...and the gear evaluations. I've already checked - All the nifty stuff I wanted to steal from your set-up is out of stock. Fixed my laptop this morning. Apparently, while wiping a bunch a stuff off the drive, I screwed up java so smugmug's uploader wouldn't work. Uploading now and I'll get some pics up later today. Made it back home late last night. I managed to pick my way through the deer gauntlet on Hwy 12....but that damn possum was different story. Why do they go 3/4 across the road then decide to go back ![]() Pretty sure there's one on Hwy 12 not "playing possum" this time. It was a pretty big pucker moment. But I had time to get squared up and get off the seat. It's the first time I've put the paralevel to test on a really big bump at speed. It did surprisingly well. Photos soon.

With Mark's permission, I'll insert a mini Ride Report here.
A month or so back, when I caught this thread and in the planning stages of my own ride, I pm'd Mark to see if he'd still be around this weekend. We've did some kind of multi-day ride every year since meeting during CJ's friendship tour. I usually ride alone, but riding with Mark is a special treat. He usually leads and I like the "spirited" pace. The little beeping black box amongst his other radio-gadgets certainly helps save some green stamps when riding "brisk". After talking to Mark, he still didn't have a firm date for his last day of work. "Since you're coming out this way, June 3rd looks like my day to begin also." It was settled. So after having the bike packed, I left work early Thursday night, slept best I could and took off for Portland Friday morning. ![]() I met the real owner of the house next door with a warning to be careful...this seductive pose is an invitation to a bloody finger. I should have known...tuxedo should be a give away. ![]() Mark was getting his gear ready. This one won't do for this ride: ![]() I met the 3 new house tenants and they even cooked a fantastic dinner. Gotta say, when I read that there was gonna be 3 early 20 y/o's staying in his place while he was gone - I thought Mark was nuts. But after having met them, his place is in good hands. An awesome trio of young men that really seem to have their act together. Thanks for the meal guys. ![]() I was hoping for a spot on the floor, but instead had a room to myself and a comfy couch to catch some sleep before we were off on our ride. This night, after having a little ride, a good meal and good company, I slept like a baby. In the morning, after coffee and an inventory of the latest electro-radio-acquisitions, we gassed up and stopped to meet some of Mark's usual coffee friends. At a Starbuck's ...with BMW GS's...imagine that. Great bunch of guys. Lots of ethnic ribbing going around. All in good nature and a thoroughly enjoyable way to begin.

We stopped at Evergreen Aviation Museum. Impressive place.
I'd like ot go back and spend some time there. But today was about riding. Plus, the security guys were trying to shoo us off. I thought we left plenty of room for fire trucks. Geez, they're picking about their special lane ![]() Mark covered most of Saturday's pics while I fought laptop issues. Not yet passing a Harley - we are double yellow law-abiding folk. ![]() On to the coast. Just from viewing the photo, I can smell and feel it. ![]() Hey Mark! How's it feel to be riding? ![]() Sea Lions making a racket ![]() Radioman extends an antenna ![]() 'cause I think it looks cool. ![]() GS's strike a pose ![]() Western edge of CONUS ![]() Mark doing a better job than me at keeping it moving through the soft stuff. ![]() ![]() Late in the day, in a slight rain, riding back to the cabin after a delicious meal at the Bistro. (We missed you, Sector)

Saturday evening was nice around the fire.
Mark worked on posting and moving photos around from different cameras. I tried to get my laptop repaired without success in between bouts of nodding off. Next we talked awhile around our small fire. Wind down from the day and after midnight, it was done. ![]() Packing up Sunday morning. ![]() Breakfast was Coffee and Blueberry Muffins. There were Bluejays in the area. Fun at first, until they became a pest. Poked holes in most of my zip lock bags. They wanted in the muffin pkg badly. ![]() Sunday started off nice. Perfect temps and blue sky. ![]() Radioman ROCKS ![]() Soon back up to speed in the sweepers along Umpqua River ![]() We had planned to ride Bear Camp Rd. But a local ranger said it was closed due to slides on the other side. There's still alot of snow up top ![]() We're not gonna try to get in diamond lake. ![]() Certainly not going to Crater Lake ![]() Mark leaves a tradeMARK snow angel ![]() We do a (mostly) good job of skirting the rain. ![]() After fueling up both bikes and bodies in Redmond, Mark goes west and I turn east from Madras. Thanks, buddy. I had a great time. Have a helluva ride. /Hijack off
