That's an interesting idea. I wonder if there is a harsh environment version of hook and loop? We definitely do not want metal box with a cable coming out the side swinging off your bars and into the front wheel, but if cable is wip tied down so there is little or no slack the odds of it going anywhere seem slim.

Wow, the remote is looking great!

It seems you need a 6 pin connector (two for power in, two for power out, and two for USB data). The power grounds could be shared, getting you down to only 5 pins. Binder makes a nice 6-pin M8 IP67 connector that I've used, but it's down to 0 stock. Theoretically, I only need 4 connectors because the 5VDC and the ground can be shared. I have not sourced the connectors yet but I will. Thats funny that they are out of stock because I swear they had stock the other day. Arg.. I can find something no doubt.

If you get down to 4 pins, then you can't beat this:

I like this because its very low profile on the inside.
Could a generic mount that just presents a small flat surface to Dual Grip to be fashioned then? We can all figure out how to clamp something to our bars. Something like this perhaps (not to scale). I forgot to post this yesterday I think. This is the back plate with the electronics. Those screw holes are for hooking some kind of rubber band or fine cable to hold the electronics fast. |

What about just a hose clamp?

You still need a surface for the velcro. If you can do that with a hose clamp, then you are good to go.

Just add a bend to this bracket and make the surface that mates with the remote wider, then the hose clap method works, with velcro or a mounting screw. One benifit to this hose clamp bracket and some of those I posted above is that they work with 7/8" bars, or somewhat down on the larger diameter of tapered bars.

Mount idea.
Based on the conversation we had the last few days, this is what I've come up with. Hose clamp the mount to the bar. Zip time the cables to the bar. Uber-Velcro the remote to mount. There is lots of surface area there. It should be good to go. The final image has a golf ball and iphone for scale. The app does not work with iPhones, it is Android only. It just happens to be something that I think most people have seen.

Unticking the maps on the search menu?
Great app! I've looked through the settings and couldn't find anything that will allow me to default the maps in the search menu to be "unticked". Whenever I search in my area i get a bunch of maps (awesome)! But I have to untick every single one of them and them tick them one by one to to figure out what's what. Is there an option that I've missed to set the search results to default in the unticked state?
thanks |
