Well I finally did it!

I went to buy a G-Zone Commando but they had run out of the refurbished units. I found on at a local shop that matched the online deal for a smoking deal without missing out. Just loaded the app... so much to learn now but I am stoked.

Very cool!. We'd love to see some photos. You are not the only one with a Commando, but you are the only one who isn't keeping it a secret.

Not sure why you would hide it?
How would you feel about voice controls for the al vs the remote?

My feeling is that voice controls in a noisy environment like that would to too inconsistent to suit me. When I want to set a waypoint, I want to do it now.

New update in testing now.

I sent out the new raster map overlay version of the app to some testers. When they get back to me with their reports of success I'll update the market so the rest of y'all can enjoy.

Overlay possibilities

Not very code savy so this may be a stupid question but, might it eventually be possible to use detailed map regions from other mapping software, such as Mapsend TopoUSA, saved to the phone or sd card, as an overlay map?

Any raster data can be used today. Any maps that you can convert to raster data can be used today. Essentially, any map you can look at on your computer screen is therefore a candidate for use today. The only issue you will have is making the image large enough to render in high levels of detail. I'm uploading JPGs about 10000pixels square. That offers good detail for a national park sized thing.

Not sure what raster data is. But, are you saying I can save map pages as Jpegs and then use that as an overlay? I can see how that would be a problem with size vs detail.

raster data = jpeg image in this context.

There are ways to blow up size without losing detail. You need to upscale the DPI of an image and its size at the same time. I don't have any good suggestions at the moment, but I'll get around to making a how to video. Suffice to say, I've not have any issues doing what I want thus far.

close now, I expect to post it up in the morning

Dual Sport Map on shaded relief map with Kaibab NF MVUV overlaid on that. This is just a zoom in sequence. The last image shows the UTM grid layer on and the overlay transparency turned low.

App Update Released: 0.2.04

The app update has been released and we have officially versioned on to 0.2.x (this means nothing ).
Look at the above posted photos of the overlay download menu and see how it works.
YOU MUST BE LOGGED INTO THE APP FOR IT TO WORK
You log in by putting your username and password into the settings page, Settings=>dualsportmaps.com=>username & password.
