As we still had another night until we were supposed to be in Moab, we picked Fruita, Colorado to stay at one of the local inns on the edge of the town. Had a good dinner at one of the local restaurant bbq places across the interstate. In the morning we had breakfast at the Aspen Street Coffee place and watched all the bicyclists coming into the downtown for an event.

We packed up pretty quick as our hopes for a dry ride into Moab wasn't looking likely. Our plan was to ride the Kokopelli Trail into Moab.

Our first sightings of the storm that continued to brew all day;

Storms in the West amaze me, I love the dramatic colors;

Our trail on Kokopelli died somewhere about 25ish miles outside of town, so we had to hit the pavement. We pulled off the hwy and added our rain gear and made sure everything was safe from the showers, as they were bound to get us soon.
Some of the rare sights we saw on the way into town;

After sooo much traffic (they had one lane open for construction) We got showered on and off until we got into town, not sure why I took a photo of the Red Rock Lodge b/c we didn't stay there, maybe b/c I needed a picture of the place we were supposed to meet back at on some point

I got the errand to go to the store and I had never seen such a diverse selection of Jello's :

After a night of much needed rest at the Lazy Lizard we had a beautiful morning to start our dirt ride of White Rim.

on the other side of the fence;

I saw this sign and the rest of the day I was hoping and hoping and hoping to see any of these lil babies;

Mussel Arch

Pointing From Mussel Man Arch ;

Mussel Man (as I was corrected by Hooligan);

We took the spur dirt road down into the canyon, which there was some seriously deep sand;

Lots of people were out on the trail that day. At the top of the worst climb, a guy had his dirt bike in the middle of the road, parked taking a break. Brent and I took a break farther down and the dirt bike went past us.

Later on the trail we wound up passing that guy again, as he was stopped and it looked like an older guy, as if he had bitten off more than he could chew riding a dirt bike all day on the trail. He had a Jeep following him and we reckon'd he had rented a bike and I bet his arse was hurting pretty bad.

The next we saw that guy again on another trail, only he was driving the Jeep Pretty nice guy, we felt bad for him tho.

Strangely enough, I don't have any pics of the Lazy Lizard!! Nor of the Rummy card games I kept winning on our picnic table.

So the morning we were having breakfast early and chilling at the diner (not sure which one, no, not the jailhouse as we ate there the previous morning)

But I felt the "awesomeness" level of my bike lower as this guy parks next to us :

No matter, a cool picture of my hair that morning (as for most mornings) will make up for it;

Ah yes, we have packed up and are rolling out ! This is the Gemini Bridges pictures;

We rode out towards Colorado (again) on Castle Valley Rd. It was really a gorgeous road and not much traffic at all for a Tuesday . But one of the only photos I got from that day where these;

We had some crazy car from New England on the dirt road, stopped in the middle of the road to take photos on that last photo bit, what a cracker

We ventured towards the direction of Telluride...............

Venture we did, right into construction..... down to a one lane in some bit.
We fueled up and made our way to the TH of Imogene Pass, only to get stopped by so much down way traffic and me falling over so many times
Then as Brent had informed me of so much downhill traffic (snow, making it impassable to Ouray) I stay where I was and Brent passed me going downhill. Then I was making my own way down......... a street Ducati was in my rear mirror!!!! It passed me and another street rider on a street bike .....

Anyhoo ~ we turn around and make the long way round to Ouray, by pavement & set up camp at the foot of the Million Dollar Hwy

The next morning we head towards Black Bear Pass;

The DR cool and calm, knowing it can't get to the top b/c of it's incapable rider ;

Our two lonely tracks in the snow;

Brent from his trek to almost the crest of Black Bear;

He swore he saw cougar paws!!!

We high tailed it the next adventure in the day, California Gulch, where we attempted it, but I couldn't make and Brent farther up turned around. We headed back down and after fussin and fightin about who was supposed to stay down we hit other trails in the same area that lead us here;

In this photo, Brent swears up and down there was a groundhog or something in the photo;

Walkin back to the motorbikes from our break;

Cool cabin ruins on the way back;

Days gone by......

Brent and I made our way the opposite side of Imogene and rode in there a bit. But I was kinda wantin to check out the town a bit and he wanted to head up into the mountains more. We agreed on a time and place and then separated.

The town of Ouray;

Ouray Brewery;

They have swings at the bar!;

We meet for dinner at the Outlaw then headed back to camp.

Our camp before we broke down at the bottom of the Million Dollar Hwy;

We packed up and rolled out towards Engineer Pass;

Still snow atop the mountains;

Did I say there was still snow on the mountain?;

We came upon the mine atop the mountain and funny, how the FS didn't have TP for me at the campsite close to me while in Ouray...... Lucky I usually am always prepared. Then close to the mine here along Engineer Pass, this super nice bathroom didn't have a lick of TP in sight, Fear not! Those handy monogrammed napkins (thicker than the mini-pack of tissues) came in handy!

After glory, we continued on to check out the mine; and a relentless jeep companion;

Prior to getting to the B-room, we met a fellow companion on a DR. Then headed towards the ruins of the mine, which while checking it out a Rental Jeep had stopped us asking for directions towards town and pass roads. Brent (who'd been out in this part of the country numerous times and new the country well ) gave his best opinion. The man in the Jeep insisted that Hooligan was wrong Wrong about the direction we were going and wrong about the passes being open, well Brent and neither do I tolerate well to ppl who insist we are wrong. We parted ways as best as possible and behold, they were behind us as we ventured towards Animas Forks......

Good to meet you

"Prior to getting to the B-room, we met a fellow companion on a DR."

I've been waiting months for you to get to this part of your ride report. I was the "fellow companion on the DR". It was so cool (on my part) to meet the two of you coming down from Engineer Pass. That was quite the ride that week for me, and lots of fun to hear about your trip. You are doing a great ride report. Way to go.

Ah yes, Animas Forks ................

The ghost town from afar;

A cool old building, that like the North London Mine was #'d and pieced together as it came into town:

The backside of the building;

An old car still left in time;

The town of Animas Forks has been neatly restored by many descendants of the miners and it was really cool to walk in the houses they have kept up so nice. It'd be nice for a summer to wake up to this view in the morning;

Atop Cinnamon Pass

We wound our way thru the mountains into lower lands of Colorado heading in the direction of Gunnison, Colorado.

And what I've been wanting to see this entire trip, keeping my eyes open for has been wild big horn sheep. And behold! Riding thru on a main vein road these gals hop across in front of us;

How many more photos can I post of sheep? I was just soooooo excited!!!

Our first stop in Gunnison, at the Blue Iguana before heading to a planned camp spot in Taylor Park Resevoir;
