Yikes, close to a year, but not quite!

So, um, yes, I did make it to MT. Here’s my story;

I organized staying overnight at a couple ADV Tent Space places. One in Misery, Missouri & the other in Wichita. The day I packed, I uh might have calmed my nerves a bit too much. I drank some & I’ll leave it at that. I had never been outside my comfort zone of the southeast. Usually within a distance of 100~ish miles, I had some type of contact in my region.

Going into unknown territory was overwhelming. I had never stayed at a hotel solo, much less ridden to one that was so far from home.
But I hit the road about 2pm, about my usual time when leaving for trips. The GS all loaded up;

Those pics will have to come tomorrow, as I've left those saved somewhere else and will not be accessible til tomorrow

Ya............ So the adventure of actually getting to Brian, which he actually rode another 60 miles East towards me to Limon, Colorado was a good trip. I can't wait to tell it.

Brian and I met in Limon, Co and man, I think we both thought maybe I might not make it But I did and safely. So we stayed the night in a hotel and got up to a beautiful morning to head north to Cooke City, MT

Upon entering Wyoming, we stopped at a Welcome Center and checked out the small museum they had going on;

The local Suzuki dealer support;

Snack time before the long, long, long straight roads of the West;

It was getting so hot, we took a nap at a local park in Wyoming, after some icecream;

Then after Casper it was some good canyon country heading north, Wind River Canyon towards Thermopolis;

Yup, Brian was still behind me;

We kept heading North, determined to get to get Cooke City, even with the threat of storms;

We passed through one Wyoming town and the Elk were in the yards of the locals! Couldn't believe it! Brian kept asking me if I wanted to stay in Wyoming and then go over Chief Joseph Pass in the morning, but Cooke City was just over the hill.............

I forgot Brian had a tinted visor and it started to sprinkle, he had to keep it up and I kept worrying about him being behind me. So in the dark ascent of Chief Joseph, with a swollen moon, I followed behind him. A person I barely knew more than less than 2 months.
I know he didn't enjoy the ride as much as I did, going over the pass. But it was really one of the most beautiful nights I'd ever ridden. Must be something about the journey through the night and almost 700 miles in a day getting to a place and that's just as far as the plan you had.

I tried to capture the silhouette of the mountains with the moon above, but alas a beauty meant only to be experienced first hand;

We made to the lodge Brian's friend owned and operated in Cooke City. The next morning was a bright, beautiful morning. We met up with his friend and her husband sipping on excellent coffee. Then Brian and I ate at the local joint, only joint serving breakfast in the one street town. All brie cheese will be forever safe from Brian I thought I had a photo of breakfast, but I think it was on Brian's phone and he didn't seem thrilled with my foodie photos.

So once again, we saddled up after breakfast, and a small tour of the 3/4 shops in town. Then we headed towards Red Lodge, MT via Beartooth

Some snow and ice at the high elevations;

I'm a safe slow driver, taking photos with my phone ;

Almost a year later and this guy still loves me ;

Oh, maybe not. I think he spotted some mermaids in the fresh water glacier water ;

On the other side of the pass these guys were really getting the attention, the fat little guys. They had to waddle from snack to snack;

I think Brian was pointing to an off road trail that he attempted with the Tiger at one point while he was in residence in the area a few years ago;

Valley heading towards Red Lodge;

So we made into Red Lodge, and his friends were very welcoming and super awesome to put up with us Some really good friends in that town, great place to check out and can't wait to check out the snow season.

A house off the main drag;

Playground, b/c I like playgrounds;

Ah, yes. This is the popular place, where the bears get their coffee and snacks before their morning jaunts;

Pretty Coneflower and spiky purple thing, that I don't know;

Antique store, with some super cool things in it;

Sammichs at one of the local bar places in town;

Mural from one of the buildings on the main drag;

The next day we took a two-up ride to a good hiking area, near a large mine operation that is the main source of income for many of those folks up there;

Close to the trailhead;

Geologist coming back to some old haunts;

Showing some drilled holes from blasting and testing;

I think was one of those as well;

Some poop ;

View from out of the gorge trail;

Crazy motorcycle people;

Showing the tracks of the rocks from glacier movements;

Rock in question, he wouldn't tell us where his ultimate destination was;

Getting back to the bike we saw this big train coming in from their month~ish long stay in the mountains;

Road back, back through Fishtail (Hope Mike didn't see that ) ;

I love how the bails look like big, fat, sheep or cow just laying and waiting to be gathered together and hauled away to another place, there time in the big open fields over and gone;

Aight ~ Next round of photos are going to be of how to change a rear Tiger tire, how to lose the rear axle and how to drive to Missoula to retrieve parts.......

bluestar! Ya, I'm a terrible slacker on the updates. But ~ with so much rain here in the southeast, and lack of funds for some '81 Honda parts. I thought I'd finally get around to updating

Hey ladybug! I got my ADV names mixed! Glad you're on board! I would like to make a trip up there sometime. I had a good friend who went to Gonzaga way back when and I'd love to ride to the San Juans!

What? I guess I missed it. How does one kill a DR? That's like saying I broke an anvil.

Obiwan ~ You're right. I thought I had posted the Death Story of the DR, but I didn't! I'll have to post it up as well.

The DR was a very, very good bike. It uh, was ready for retirement at +36 k. So, ya I'll be posting that story.

Boondoggle! ~ Hey!! I know I can't make it to RDV My parents are celebrating their 35th Anniversary that week. The same week, I specifically told her NOT to pick for their trip to Miami. But alas ~ I have to watch the antique store while you guys party it up!
I dunno if I can get away from the store on Saturday and make it up there in the middle of the night, but Sunday geez, Hawk left last year at like 6am I'd be there to help pack up and that'd be it

Never before seen photos! Brian had a rear tire shipped to his buddies in Red Lodge and he was very successful in changing the front while in my hometown in Chattanooga. I definitely would not have thought the rear...............

Oh wait, no, I did know that the Heindenau would be a b* I remember a certain Tiger wayyyyyy back when on a Prentice Cooper trail ride. Hawk had to use his KTM Adventure side stand to break the bead on Monte's rear Heidenau.

So I just watched Brian, and offered to help (I think I did).

The photos no one saw from the Heindenau Debacle ;

Brian was successful with the saw. But he did need some help putting the new tire on. So he found a local shop on the main drag and hopped in his buddy's truck to take it.

Hopped in his buddy's truck, with the rear axle on the tailgate and a couple other non-important rear wheel attachments

The tire got put on with the help of the shop But he was out an an axle and other small parts. We walked, drove the truck, walked, drove the truck, rode the bicycle, walked and couldn't find ANY of those pieces. We were planned to leave in the next day or so.

We made many, many, many calls.

There's not much in availability for overnight express options, we found out.

Missoula was the nearest dealer for Triumph. Triumph would overnight the parts to Missoula, then the dealer would overnight the next day to Red Lodge. Triumph wasn't into drop shipping.

Brian ordered the overnight from Triumph to Missoula, next day we borrowed a buddy's truck and drove the 350 miles one way.
