After breakfast we made the short hike to see Cola de Caballo falls. Been wanting to see it for decades. Not a high volume of water flowing right now but still worth seeing.

Then we packed the ponies and continued west on Hwy 20 through the Parque Nacional Cumbres de Monterrey, past Cerro San Rafael to Los Lirios then looped back on Hwy 112 to Bosques de Monterreal for lunch.

After lunch we backtracked west to pick up the paved road to Ciénega del Toro then dirt most of the way to Galeana.

Airing down to surf the gravel.

We arrived in Galeana just ahead of the rain, checking into Jardin Colonial.

The central plaza.

La Casona is touted as the best restaurant in town but it was closed for a private event so.....

....we ate next door. Just OK. Then walked the plaza and grabbed a couple more pix.

Roy has been great to ride with but tomorrow we go our separate ways - Roy back home to Fresnillo and me to see my dear friend Sergio at La Picota. Heh heh. A promise is a promise.

Roy (RW66) bought me breakfast (again!) this morning then we were off. Had a great time chasing Roy through the mountains and really appreciated his local knowledge and easy manner. Must do this again. We split up just south of Galeana and I slabbed it south on the Panamerican Hwy to purchase my favorite producto de Tamaulipas.

When I arrive at La Picota Sergio is not there but the young man remembers me. And tells me that he can't sell me any because tomorrow is Election Day. But I'm Texan, I say, and cannot vote here. And tomorrow I return home with no La Picota. ¡Que lastima! Shortly after I'm backtracking north to Cola de Caballo to grab more pix of the falls, the oldest Magnolia tree in Mexico (100+ years), and a bungee jumper.

From my table in the restaurant

Did I mention this is advertised as Mexico's highest bungee jump?

Then camarones al mojo de ajo aaaaanndd

Tomorrow I ride home.

Left Cola de Caballo Sunday morning after the bicyclists and took a short cut around the south side of Presa Rodrigo Gómez through the Bahia Escondido community. The rough asphalt road turned to hard pack dirt and big loose rock, dropping down to Hwy 10 through a series of switchbacks. Had a few steep sections so I had ABS off. Got onto Hwy 10 and stopped to shoot the Cueva de Los Murcielagos (Bat Cave) then on to Juarez and later Hwy 85 to Puente Colombia to queue up with the cages at the Border. Stopped by Casa Tricepilot for a break and hung around until he offered to buy me dinner to get me on my way. Works most of the time.

I'm here! Wish I was there. You guys give me a heads up. That trip report was too stimulating. I'm ready to go back to Mexico. Viva Galeana!

JDs trip was a lot of fun!!!!!!!!!!!
Is there anyone in the RGV that would be interested in a fast weekend round up of riders there?
You could leave McAllen after work Fri, spend the night in Cola de Cabillo plan a half day ride and go home or do a full day ride and end up in Galiana or Montereal and then ride home the next day.....
What do you think?????
Any takers????

Yep! Labor Day weekend is just around the corner. Will try to get that Friday off and make another four day weekend out of it.

All some of us can do is live through you guys. I'm envious.

I have not been riding much at all, have not even done the Hill Country since I was up there for the Harvest Classic with you and your son, RW.

Marlo and Pilot dropped by this morning to look at the WR and the suspension goodies I bought for the KLR. I still need to get a dash and a rear shock and then it will be a matter of installing everything.

Enjoy the trip if you guys do head out!
