Ok... Ned called and asked to be picked up. He enjoyed his stay a the Woods but felt abandoned. I picked him up at 1330 hours today...

We went for a nice ride and he told me some horror stories about the abuse some of you guys put him through. FOR SHAME!!! He kinda got a bit pissy as I wouldn't let him take the bike for a spin so I had to drop him off on the side of the road. He was quacking furiously as I left. Can't imagine why.

He's currently at:

N 39 23.356
W 078 06.576

At an elevation of 1056 ft.

The intersection is a caliber and what would be if Puerto Rico became a state.

WARNING!!! I didn't realize it when I put him where he is but there is a wasp nest about 1 foot above him. The wasps didn't act aggressive but if you're allergic, be careful please. If I need to move him, let me know.

He's here...

At the end of the guard rail...

He's under the slab of concrete...

The wasp next is above him in the guard rail.

Grab/Tag

Figured I'd take the long way home and visit Ned

Sorry for the lack of creativity in this post, but I put in a 13 hour day at work... left home @ 8am, got back in almost 11:30pm after making the run for the tag. Wish I had a Go-Pro, I nearly ran into this deer playing corner guard in a set of S turns... better than coffee to wake you up! Make sure you watch out for the mutant forest rats at night.

Camera doesn't take the best night pics, but should be able to make it out.

Grab at the top of Buck Hill, Rt45 & 51, near Gerrardstown. Ned is on the gas cap, red arrow

This one is off a main road, also a metric handgun caliber... Should recognize it from the pic, I had to find a place that was decently lit so you could actually see the tag

Under this rock, approx where the red arrow is:

If you need an add'l clue, I took a pic where the sign is in focus... you guys shouldn't need it

Thanks! I've been watching this thread for a while but haven't had a chance to really get involved with working on 3 businesses. I'm forcing myself to take some time to do it now. LOL

5-29-13 Grab-Tag

Grab at the Hedgesville Post Office. not to far from my work....

Ned wanted to head back south again....Ned is at the bottom of the sign's post....

Tag is at one of main roads through the Shen. Valley.. (at one of the many illegal borders "jus sayin")... oh and some history ---- Long before the arrival of English colonists, Native Americans of the Delaware and Catawba tribes used this well-watered path as a migratory route and hunting grounds, moving between what is now Georgia and Canada. Beginning in the 1730s, Scots-Irish and German immigrants coming from Pennsylvania began to move up the valley and establish settlements. As a result of the Treaty of Lancaster, the Iroquois were promised a marked path up the Valley which was laid out in 1745 by James Patton and John Buchanan. Initially called the "Indian Road", it was later known as the "Great Wagon Road." On March 3, 1834, The Valley Turnpike Company was incorporated by an act of the Virginia General Assembly, and the state participated in the public-private venture through the Virginia Board of Public Works with a 40% investment to build 68 miles (109 km) between Winchester and Harrisonburg. A similar road from Harrisonburg to Staunton was built by another company, and they merged. The new combined road, by then known as the "Valley Pike", was significantly improved and tolls were charged for the upkeep of its 93-mile (150 km) length. An official report made by General P. H. Sheridan published in July 1866 described the Valley Pike as follows: "The city of Martinsburg,... is on the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, at the northern terminus of the Valley pike--a broad macadamized road, running up the valley, through Winchester, and terminating at Staunton."

Ned is at the bottom of the large block directly under the Y. I kicked some dirt over him after the pic.

Grab - Millville Quarry

Tag - Ned is off a road with a mission (Didn't quite hit the 10 mile mark, but I'll make it up on the next one.)
“Engagement at Myers Ford, Sunday Sept. 5, 1864 – Blazer’s and Mosby’s Men"

Ned is hiding at the base of the telephone pole to the right of this marker, he is covered up by some dead grass.

And your history lesson:

On Sunday, September 5, 1864, Col. John S. Mosby left Loudoun County with two companies headed to Jefferson County. They crossed the Shenandoah River at Myers Ford. Mosby and six rangers proceeded to Charlestown leaving the rest of the men in camp near the ford.

At the same time Capt. Richard Blazer left Charlestown with company of “Independent Scouts” to find Mosby. Blazer crossed the Shenandoah and headed to Hillsboro only to discover that Mosby had left there and had headed to Jefferson County.

Blazer followed the route that Mosby had taken and surprised Mosby’s men camped at Myer’s Ford. During the fight 13 Confederates were killed, six wounded, and five were captured. Blazer lost one killed, three wounded, and three were captured. “The men in camp being totally unprepared for an attack, scattered when the attack was made in all directions, the most of them having no time to saddle and mount their horses.”
