I'm a tad concerned about a shiny, bright finish...
Those options don't rank high on my 'need/want' scale

I have Krylon in the shop. Extra finish just makes it cost more.

Anything that is not too shiny/reflective would be good as it would be better to not have any sun glare from it.

I would have to agree perhaps a brushed or matted finished to keep the reflection down....

It''s not an issue. I made a similar panel of my own...it's not as nice as this one. I want one of these too. I have it mounted in the upper bar clamp location. At the time I did this I replaced the high beam and neutral indicator bulbs with LED's. A green LED for neutral and a blue LED for high beam. They were only $1.19 each and probably cost less than the OEM bulbs from Suzuki. The colored LED's combined with the colored lens make for a more vivid, deeper color. I did not put a colored LED in the turn signal indicator yet because I'm not going to do LED turn signals until I get some other things done first. I am told an amber LED for the turn signal indicator will still appear amber even with the green lens. I can tell you there is a big difference between the green LED neutral light compared to the green turn signal indicator with the OEM incandescent bulb. The bottom two LED's are the ones I used for the indicator panel. The high power 3 LED Blue (HP3) I used to back light the speedometer in blue.

Brilliant Tech!
why didn't I think of this?

It seems we're resolved on a couple of consensus points :
1. It should be full 4-bolt size, not half-size
2. Elliptical bolt openings for flex in mounting.
3. Reversible
4. No paint. We'll keep open about what sort of metallic finish - dull is good.

Sounds good!

So make this and as soon as you finish, we'll add some more requirements as that's how these things go .

Seriously - thanks for the effort and I look forward to seeing this through!

Zapp, Once you have a finalized list to start production, can you just ask around to see how many are interested in the toggle switches and voltmeter options? Maybe you can just buy some on bulk, cut it out, put 'em on and charge us for the parts and your troubles?

I do not have a good drill for the holes and would prefer it done by somebody who knows what he is doin'

For starters, count me in for one with a voltmeter and two toggle switches attached...heck I will go with even 3 or 4 switches if there is real estate for it.

Thumb

Two new images here gents. sorry for the delay but we are ready to run the second protos so any feedback here is helpful.

The second run will look like the first image, a drawing actually, below except for some rounding of those sharpish points at the lower edge. The other two pics are of the original properly mounted [type A or Alpha if you will].

I"m still very underinformed about the use of aftermarket bars and top clamps or the whole bar mount rig. I don't want to go three-dimensional with bends and contours to accommodate various creative top clamps - need the flat top surface. And need to know if there is enough of a market for the Pro Taper bars to use that as the measuring stick for clearances etc... Otherwise, the default is to use stocker dimensions and sink/swim on that basis.

Still considering the 4-bolt version we discussed but need to finish the Simpleton version first and get some mailed out for realworld use. Getting costs on a run now.

Original, mounted:

Question Production

going to production, sink or swim.
One more question at this point regarding choice of material. Which is your firm preference:
- Stainless steel, typical stainless steel finish ?
- "Aircraft" grade aluminum, roughly 1/8" thick, typical alum finish... [like a lot of M/C parts]
- Stainless steel, dull finish. I worry about glare/glint/mirror/reflection

??

I'm for the cheapest overall (material cost + effort/cost to work the material) so I vote for letting that drive material choice.

Glare? Too many easily had solutions that a buyer can handle to solve that - not worth your time, my opinion...

For the future, if this dash were made notably larger (to hold more gadgets for instance), I might suggest aluminum as it will presumably be easier for the buyer to drill and grind as needed for those gadgets. But for now (current size), not really a point.

Can you give us an estimated delivery time?

Thanks again!

Wink

what for now I'm calling 'Type 2' is already designed.
the Type 1 - I don't have an actual schedule but my plan is to knock it out in the next week - by Friday 7/15. Final triple-check of measurements today.

Low cost??? surely we are not in the 'cheep bin' with those KLR miscreants?

yes... low cost. Just no klr green colors pls...
