Sorry to hear about the unplanned cancellation, but when rest is required, it's good to see the warnings being heeded. I look forward to the coming adventures!

Dang-it! Sorry to hear it, a cancellation for you is a cancellation for all of us who ride with you (vicariously)
Hope everything works out, we'll be watching for 2015.

Orbdr 2014

Most of my regrets result from things I didn't do.

This summer I regret not finishing WASH-MX in July and sitting out the VULCAN RUN in September all from a silly little torn meniscus. After convalescing for three months my knee was ready enough to dab through ORBDR.
Rainy days and the first snow are normal during October in the Cascades, but I wouldn't regret a week of riding and camping in the Oregon high country before winter set in.

Fly from Florida to Portland, roll my well seasoned 530 from storage, perform a little moto maintenance, resupply panniers then head south solo to Squaw Mountain in Hood National Forest. Looking south from Squaw Mountain there was nothing but blue sky above Mt. Jefferson.

I added a 50 mile detour to my planned route from Portland to Sisters when I accidently hooked up with a couple of dual sport locals exploring Hood National Forest. They led me on rugged logging roads with awesome scenery at a spirited pace. I felt rusty and actually rode much faster than I wanted to. Fortunately, it doesn't take long to boost mojo (false confidence).

These guys knew the routes around all the recent burn areas and after a long descent on Abbott Road, they kindly directed me out of the forest to Clackamas Highway where I progressed solo towards Sisters.

Late in the afternoon, I switched to reserve on Historic Santiam Wagon Road. I burned 200 miles worth of gas since Portland but still needed to squeeze 30 more miles out of reserve to make it to Sisters for fuel and food. No sweat. 230 miles between fill ups is no problem with a six gallon fuel tank.

I intended to camp tonight but was running about two hours behind schedule so I decided to grab a filling dinner and sleep indoors at Sisters Motor Lodge.

Dinner choices within walking distance from Sisters Motor Lodge was between a fancy art deco restaurant and a pizza joint. The bustling pizza place had Patriots vs. Bengals blasting from the 70 inch TV. There were only two cars parked in front of the at low lit white table cloth establishment.

I ate a tasty pepperoni pizza and rooted for the Patriots.

I was to meet w Jakbrand later in the week, but a couple of days before he started riding, I flew to Chicago to meet my wife and celebrate our 10 year anniversary....

2644319-ejtv - Adventure Rider from Tapatalk on Vimeo.

While Jakbrand stayed solo at rundown motels, I went all out for the wife. Stayed at the old IBM Building, designed by Mies van der Rohe, first few floors now a hotel.

Not sure what they did with the hotel lobby followed Mies at all...a shame, really...

Barcelona couch:

Barcelona chairs:

Mies:

Our room:

Nice touch, the rose petals, no?

While Jakbrand ate dehydrated camping food and stale pizza, I celebrated w dinner at Sixteen:

Here are a few of the treats:

Instead of Jakbrand's O'Doules and powdered hot chocolate mix, we had a few libations:

Next day, not sure what Jakbrand did, but I had couples massages (I told you, I went all out!) and a light lunch at the hotel instead of Jakbrand's jerky:

While Jakbrand drank Mountain Dew at a gas station, wife and I visited the Velvet Hour, a super neat bar. Here we are in line outside to get in....

Room service dinner w Chicago Fire fireworks...a total Emanuel Rahm fiasco, LOL...

Then next am, Sun, flew to SLC and the next day to Portland. Saw Jakbrand posing below...

Shuttle from airport to storage unit

There she was:

While changing oil, by chance, discovered a hole in the engine! No wonder the oil was so dirty and the engine stalling last time....

Hole plugged!

Ready to slab it to meet Jakbrand Mon evening at Crescent Lake and enjoy a week of stale pizza, jerky, dehydrated camping food, tents, rundown motels and no showers....Priceless!
