I know this might not be the correct forum, but I came up your way a few weeks ago and enjoyed the roads and company of Halcyon Daze and he spoke highly of your group, so I'd like to enlist some opinions. I've wanted to pick up a dual sport for awhile and have finally settled on a DR650. I don't need to hear about smaller or European bikes, I've made this decision based upon my own criteria. However, I've started looking and I'm having trouble deciding which to choose from. I checked CL today and narrowed to these. All are 4-5 hours away from my home, so I'd like to make a well informed decision before dragging a trailer around the countryside.

Is there a significant difference between 06 and 11 models and would that extra 6-7000 miles matter?

A 2011- 3200 miles $5500. no mods. Original owner. Out of money. (in virginia)

A 2011 - 2200 miles, $5400 - suspension upgrades, pumper carbs, performance exhaust, owned by a young guy in the USGC. Father selling. Can't ride now. (Arden, NC)

A 2006 - 9000 miles, $3000 - mature owner, FMF exhaust, rear rack, meticulously kept. (Candler, NC)

A 2006 - 10000 miles, $3100 - Lots of upgrades, rear rack, skid plate, FMF exhaust, jetted, aftermarket tank, spitfire windshield. (Virginia)

No real difference in the model years, aside from colors. An extra 6K shouldn't make that much of a difference either. Do they have service records?

I would go with either this one: (If the suspension upgrades are an aftermarket rear shock, stiffer fork springs and emulators).

yup. Even if you are planning on a lot of suspension upgrades, I would go with the cheaper one: it seems to have a lot of the important stuff done, and you have $2400 "play money" for shocks (the stock suspension worked just fine for me.. but I am short, so it didn't matter that I am a bit more "condensed" )

Warning, Totally useless info follows;

The Good, In 2006 they came with flux capacitors from the factory.

The bad, The Virginia bike does not know the roads around here as well.

Finally if you ever, break a clutch cable while riding around these parts, Hunter has a proven method of fixing them. I'll take a little credit for the assist.
