TigerLilly goes North - Visit all the people I love tour

I've moved at least 20 times in my life. I've lived in two countries, four states and three provinces. The hardest part about moving around that much is all the beautiful people I've left behind. So, about once a year I go visit as many of them as I can. I'm originally from Canada so my entire family is still there. Tomorrow, I will jump on my Triumph Tiger 1050 ( with new Trax bags ) and go from Santa Fe, NM to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and back. This journey will involve lots of stops along the way to spend time with the people and places I love. From the red rocks of Sedona, to the canyons of Utah, to the Kootenay valley in beautiful British Columbia. The whole thing should take me a month. I'm going alone. The last time I made this trip I almost didn't survive it. It ended with a lot of broken bones and many years of surgery and rehab. This is a pilgrimmage of sorts for me to regain some things I lost. Thank you for joining me on the journey.

The New Trax bags on the Tiger

I'm old school, can't even spell GPS...

Day 1: Santa Fe, NM to Sedona, AZ

Wind, wind, and more wind. I'm running away from the damn wind. Santa Fe has seen three months of relentless wind. And I head west directly into it.

I have been a non-music rider for 15 years. A friend encouraged me to try tunes so I spent last night downloading 150 of my favorite tunes into my iPhone. I have to say after an entire day on the super slab I'm sold. I was passing semis at 90 while listening to John Hiatt and Zac Brown.

My favorite truck stop in Gallup, NM.

I made it to Sedona about 1700 hrs. The loved one I am visiting here is Robert...my ex-husband. I have read many tales of bitterness, anger, and heartbreak in the pages of ADV threads. There is no shortage of bitter divorce stories. I chose a different path. My ex-husband is still family and one of my best friends. There was pain, betrayal, and ugliness but it has passed. It has been forgiven. My life is better for it. Holding onto pain, anger, and bitterness only damages me. Letting go has given me the freedom to love.

I tucked the Tiger away in the garage...

Right next to this little beauty...

It took me all of about 5 minutes to get a wrench on her. I think I'll take her for a spin tomorrow morning...

Robert is a great cook and proceeded to make me one of the best Ruben's I've ever had. Accompanied by some good beer, and even better whiskey.

And to cap off the evening we watched World Superbike races on the tely...

And of course we need the obligatory Red Rocks picture from Sedona...I lived here for 7 years so the novelty has worn off a bit I guess.

Tomorrow, its off to Utah. My route will take me past the very point where I was t-boned by a 3/4 ton pickup truck 8 years ago. I have not ridden a bike through that exact same spot since it happened. Back then I was on a Black Triumph Tiger coming back from this same trip. It will be interesting to see what sort of reaction I have to riding through there. Maybe I'll stop and take a picture of it...maybe not.

More later...
