I heard they were out this year. They will bend a face shield in on a full face helmet so it touches your nose at 60 mph.

added. There was a Science Friday show segment on them a couple weeks back.

Cicada's actually. Not Locusts. We have them in our surrounding woods and it is loud and sounds like a science fiction alien invasion. Creeps my wife out a bit.

Outside the garage...

I don't mind them. I grew up in the south. They are however EVERYWHERE in central Tennessee right now.

wear good eye protection!!!!

Watched a Harley passenger take one in the eye on I-75 southbound near Charleston, Tennessee Saturday. I was just passing them when we ran into a cloud of them on the highway. They looked like hummingbirds! The Harley riders were riding with no eye protection and were relying on the windshield. The woman took one in the right eye, started jerking and screaming nearly throwing them off the bike. He pulled over, and I offered to lead them to the hospital. Not sure if her eyelid was cut or her eye itself was damaged. There was blood everywhere. Makes me not want to even leave the faceshield on my full coverage helmet open any more.

I'll take the Cicadas over the stink bugs that have invaded the Mid-Atlantic area.

At least the Cicadas had the decency to stay out of the house.
