Very nice!! Never underestimate powder coating's ability to make even the worst welds look good!
Man, is that looking good, I can't wait to see my frame with a new coat of lime green, and pink, it's gonna be beautiful!

Question R60/6 fork slider upgrade

I have a set of r60/6 drum brake sliders that take the 17mm axle. Originally, I purchased the sliders for my Grimeca brake, but decided not to head that route.

IMG_4677

However, I'd still like to use these fork sliders on my /5. They improve fork bracing, have pinch bolts on both sliders, and I can huck that weenie 14mm stock axle.

So... to run a larger 17mm axle in a /5 front hub, can I simply remove the (2) axle reducer sleeves (the short one pressed into the brake plate and the long one in bearing assembly) to make this work? I don't have a 17mm front axle here to verify, but figure I'd pose the question before investing more brain cells.

EDIT// Looks like I'll need to have a new top hat spacer in the brake plate machined to accept the larger axle. Simply leaving it out won't work. Guess I could leave the 14mm axle in place and just install a sleeve in the fork slider itself……hmmm //EDIT

Well, things have been creeping at a glaciers pace during a busy month.

Houseoffubar's machinist friend assisted with a new brake plate spacer (I still owe you btw Eric!). It may not look different, but he machined the /5 brake plate to accept a larger and custom top hat spacer, which fits the 17mm axle properly. So… no more sissy /5 axle with reducers needed.

All new stainless adornments, along with further indulgences.

IMG_4901

Took me a few hours humming at the polishing wheel to shiny-up most of the unsightly bits.

Rebuilt the forks with a kit from eurotech and installed a set of HD fork springs I had squirreled away. I was content to find both fork tubes dead straight, since I always seem to run across one wonky tube during a teardown.

Also, I scrounged a set of bucket ears, sans reflector holes, but had to cut'em down to fit the spiffy top brace.

Still have a bin of new parts to fumble with, just awaiting another batch from the powder cooker.... I don't want to spoil the fun yet.

Quite impressed... I wasn't expecting that much purging power from vinegar!

It'll probably flash rust this evening, but at least it's somewhat sanitary to mail. Should be another inmate's headache shortly.
Wow... That was impressive. Looks like my /5's tank... well, ok, not quite that bad, but, pretty damned bad... not leaking - yet!.

I am presuming vinegar will eat at the tank and is probably not a good idea for a tank that is still serviceable. Any thoughts on that?

The question was a good way to subscribe to this!
