Best Roads for Creek Crossings in North Ga.

Sitting here talking to a young man who is a family friend. He's home in Georgia for 3 weeks from the Air Force Academy. He likes to take his SUV offroading and is always asking me about good roads I've seen on my motorcycle.

I'm showing him Adventure Rider as we speak. He think's it's a very cool site.

Can you guys give us some suggestions on the best dirt roads in North Ga., in terms of cool creek crossings. Seems I'm crossing creeks all the time, but can't think of specific names (Oldtimers I guess). Road names or numbers would be helpful.

Thanks for your help!

PS - River crossings also - thanks

Hmmm....I know other people will have much better options. Whats he drivin'? I really love the creek crossing at upper hightower, it's about 100'? But HT is rough on 4 wheelers, very rutted out. I like the crossing at Dick's creek, don't know why? Also, Helton creek falls into Hatchet creek falls....hmmm what else????

Up near Burels and Earls Ford near Clayton and Highlands is a nice area.

Ellijay has a nice route with 7 crossings I think

If Danny is full go by now, he is doing some guided offroading from Dualsports to Jeeps in Murphy TellicoCamper

Also, I remember Canada Creek Rd. off of FS42 has some crossings I remember, but not sure it's open now. (a gate?).

Hey, don't you think Flatland is too narrow for a 4 wheeler? Car/Truck? Popcorn road has a few as well.

+1 for Cashes Valley Rd. Here, as a matter of fact, is the previous poster crossing one of the 4-5 crossings on the road. It's a dead end road, so you get to cross them all twice.

Thumb WMA around Suches

Can't think of the name of the WMA Rec. Area, but it's off Hwy. 60 (I think?). Just find the fish hatchery in the area, and there are dirt roads off the gravel road leading to it. Or you could just hit almost any dirt road in the area.
I hope inmates keep posting on this, I love riding in this area. There's nothin' like a good river crossing in the hot summer!

Amen - I was thinking the same thing. I need to make a better mental catalogue of good creek/river crossings. Hope riders will continue posting them.

Not sure? The young man has been known to take inappropriate equipment into the wrong places!! I think he kind of enjoys that in a sick sort of way. Last river crossing I told him about - he went and got stuck late at night! And to think, he will be helping defend us one day from the sky! (AP - I know you are going to see this! - I like your adventure spirit!)

Thanks all for the previous and hopefully continuing suggestions.

From Hiawassee head east on 76. Few miles out on the left is Upper Hightower. Take a left, stay straight. Road turns to dirt and there will be some smaller crossings along the way, this big one is at the end. I have done it on everything from V-Strom, 690R to Jeep Wrangler and soon to be on GSA.

FS Roads in NE GA

I happen to be an old West Point grad, but not above helping a USAFA guy out. Just kidding, I hope he has a great time on leave. Where to go would depend a lot on what he's driving. I don't think Flatland Rd would be much fun in a bigger SUV without a winch, but might be good in a geo tracker or suzuki. I think Helton Creek and Hatchett Creek are some cool watercrossings suitable for just about anything. Same goes for Popcorn, assuming the tornado damage is cleared up.

Nice video.

I had forgotten this one. Accidentally got the camera in high-speed mode. Fair warning - If you click play don't come asking for that 2 minutes of your life back.

I present, the style, the grace, the utter poetry in motion that is .... Al Tuna.
