I'm in. My trip to Prudhoe scheduled to leave on 6/9 has been cancelled by a heart complication so I'll be riding along here. Good luck and be safe.

I'll be living this trip vicariously through you. Will be a few years before I can pull off such a epic journey.
Good Luck, be safe, and enjoy the ride!

I am in!!! 28 days until I leave....you are gonna make them miserable, me having to watch your ride report, waiting until I can leave!!

BTW......awesome pic of you from the BMWNEF Rally, great composition in the photo, although the subject matter was a bit lacking!! The photographer did a great job!! Even captured the Deals Gap sidestand plate very well!!! LOL!!!

Ride safe my friend. You got my number if you need help with anything along the way. Maybe we will cross up on your way back down!!! If our plans for the weekend wash out I will let you know and we can meet up as you pass through Homestead.

Sounds good Andy,
I DO have to let others reading this know that YOU were the photographer so you MIGHT be a tad biased on your opinion of the photo composition.

Myself I think the subject added a lot (of girth) to the photo .
OH, and thanks again for letting me borrow your sidestand plate so I didn't sink into the sugar sand at every stop...glad I got my altrider stainless steel sidestand plate on there now!

Sure is difficult staying focused on WORK stuff today and tomorrow....

I"ll be following along too. Great choice on bikes, the V-Strom works fantastic on those roads up there.

A Question for the experienced travelers

So a question or two you folks that have done this before - i.e. traveled thru Canada up to Alaska...

1) How much cash would you carry on a trip of this length
2) How much of that cash would you convert to Canadian dollars and where would you do it?

Thanks,

Dave in Tampa

ONE MORE DAY AT WORK!!!

ONE MORE DAY AT WORK!!!
I've been in Alaska since 1952 and traveled the ALCAN a couple dozen times (motorcycles, cars, trucks, motorhomes, etc.)

Plastic works almost everywhere, Canada and Alaska, credit or debit (ATM).

Cash: I usually carry several hundred US when entering Canada. After I enter Canada I get couple hundred CDN out of a Canadian ATM. Nearly all Canadian businesses will take US dollar for dollar. Sometimes Canadian border will ask if you have any cash but rarely ask to see it. I always say yes. If exchange rate is near 1:1 then I don't bother getting much CDN since banks now charge 1% exchange for ATM (on top of ATM fees.) Hardly ever need much cash and you can get more from ATM most anywhere. I use plastic most of the time but am old school on tipping wait-staff with cash. So bottom line, carry what you normally carry that makes you comfortable. (and not all in the same place.)
