JUNE 5th 2011:

Well I made it to Valdosta GA and stopped for dinner.

Had a bad spell today due to horrible heat as I was leaving the keys.
REMINDER TO STAY COOL !!!

I started soaking my clothes to act as an evaporative cooler and felt SO much better.

I also had to repack the dry bag to get more seat room AND removed my seat beads as they were pinching a nerve and causing leg pain which never happened before...WEIRD

I am heading to Warner Robbins where I am crashing at Calico Jacks place

No photos en-route today-just made interstate miles so I can get to Colorado where the REAL vacation begins!!

Today I made about 740 miles, spent $85 on 19.2 gallons of fuel and averaged about 38.4mpg - not bad for flyin' down the hwy fully loaded!

JUNE 6th 2011's Notes:

Today's Ride - Macon, GA to St Louis, MO

Well I made it to just N of Nashville TN now...
I had to stop for fuel and to cool off!!

No photos on the ride again-sorry but in a hurry to make Colorado Springs tomorrow.

I WILL say that I forgot how scenic it is on I-24 from Chattanooga on north. I wish i had my contour on for that leg...oh well

Gotta eat and hit the road (Favorite stop for the Gold Wing crowd)

Oh and for iPhone users TapaTalk rocks for posting fast on the road. Just watch the grease spots on your phone LOL

Colorado Pass update

Hey Dave,
The weather is looking good for your arrival this week. Trail Ridge reporting open now as well as most of the other passes. Pikes Peak looks clear also. Can smell summer in the air.
Estimated time of our arrival tuesday?

He left here (St Louis) at 5:30am, so you should see him around 6:30-7:00 this evening if the heat isn't too bad across Kansas.

June 7th 2011 - Just east of Topeka KS in a service plaza...

Many thanks to my hosts Mark and Meagan last nite!!
They were REALLY GREAT and took me to an REI store (My 1st time in one!!) where I found more "must have" stuff.

I got a much smaller sleeping pad (Big Agnes) to replace my 15 yr old original thermarest and save space on the rear seat.

I also got a quick disconnect for my camelback hydration bladder.

565 miles to go still and the wind SUCKS (blows?) in KS

PROOF THAT KANSAS BLOWS (it's the windmills in the distance!!)

Windmills in distance to harness the powerful winds - nothing like riding the speed-limit ('cuz I'd NEVER speed) at a 45-degree angle due to cross-winds.
