Well, Day 2 is in the books. Didn't get near as much riding done today due to repairs- certainly cost me several hours.

Camped on the Arkansas River in Salida and "enjoying" a Newner-style dinner. I figured a 7-11 in Colorado would have more to offer, but I was not making another trip.

Only rode about 200 miles today. After my am biff, I practiced the mantra- slow and steady wins the race and listened to a bunch of talk radio on XM (as opposed to Rage Against the Machine yesterday ).

Wildlife sightings were fewer-
14 pronghorn
2 mule deer
Dozens of prairie dogs
1 gopher snake
And one road-blocking bull. He was just standing there- his attention focused on a slutty cow. I waited a bit for them to move on their own free will.

One of the highlights today was riding alongside a herd of pronghorn (about 12). They were in the road lined by fences. They just kept running in the road and I clocked them at about 35mph. Some darted under and over the fence, others attempted a smokescreen move- stop and tumble, creating a huge cloud of dust that blew right in my eyes. Nearly sent me off the road, as I was temporarily blinded. Fun stuff.

All for now. Gotta check status of the passes I'm scheduled to hit tomorrow.

Newner's dinner would also includes a 2 pound heat-em-up gut bomb burrito.

Yes, but I'm only willing to go so far with this.

Bushducks still reports (as of 5/31) Hancock pass as closed. I'll call the ranger station first thing tomorrow. May have to route around it.

Yep, that's why I mentioned Marshall being opened now. It was closed just a few days ago.

Unless I get a definite NO from the ranger tomorrow morning, I'm heading to Hancock. It is 43 miles from here, but would be twice that if I have to turn back. I mapped out the Marshall re-route and it seems like a major compromise. I want to stay true to the TAT if at all possible.

Fingers crossed for smooth riding, as I need a solid day tomorrow to make up for today.

The true TAT? The 2011 maps no longer route you through Hancock. We will be going through Hancock if it is open as well.

I looked all over the San Isabel Nat Forest website and couldn't find anything on this land slide. Nothing anywhere else either. I'll be watching your Spot tracks tomorrow. Be safe and I hope you get through there.

Looking good DD! I hope you get to ride Hancock. It's a blast. Rocky as hell. Stay on the uphill side of the turns as rubble tends to collect on the downhill and once you commit it is hard to change.

HANCOCK IS CLOSED.

Spoke with Ann at the Salida FS ranger office. Won't likely be passable until July. She was very helpful and forthcoming with info, although she had never heard of the TAT.

I advised her to look it up via Sam's website.

She will be updating Bushducks today and stated that she is always open to calls from people like myself. She is reached by the # that Bushducks publishes under Hancock pass.

Guess that means I'm headed to Marshall pass. Adios.

Sucks, that Hancock is closed. It means that you're gonna miss Tomichi, too.
I'm glad that your little pirouette didn't cause too much damage!
Correction: Newner's dinner consists of Coors Light (usually more than two).

Cinnamon pass was cool- both literally and figuratively. I'll have epic pics of that later. California/Hurricane pass is closed (over 7 ft of snow blocking my progress. Had to reroute the last stretch to Silverton. Buzzing onward.

Gonna try to get another 100 miles or more before camping at TBD site.

Peace.
