But i can get my XT in the airplane! That's how I got it out to Gustavus in '04, and so far have put 5000 miles on it with only 15 miles of road to drive. Now that we got ferry service this summer I need to get my MC license so I can get out of town next summer. Thinking about leaving the bike in Skagway for a bit and make runs across the border on the weekend.

Fall Photos

Since most visiting riders head south before temperatures drop to, or below, freezing here in Alaska, here are some photos to show what they're missing.

9/21/11: As with a previous photo, this one was shot on the highway at Sheep Mountain, but facing west with Lion's Head Butte prominent in the center -

9/21/11: Closer to Lion's Head, with snow coating the upper half of the nearby Chugach Range mountains -

9/21/11: Near Eureka Summit, along the Glenn Hwy between Palmer and Glennallen -

8/28/11: And if a person wants to pull off the highway and expend a little energy walking around in the tundra, wild blueberries provide ample reward (these were in my front yard ) -

Since this photo was taken, we've had several good frosts, so the berries (the ones left, as birds and small rodents are also getting them) are now ripe and very sweet. Their flavor is reminiscent of nice, ripe concord grapes.

Here is a few shots from our trip to AK. These were heading down to Valdez.

We shot 200 to 300 photos each of us (wife and I) every day, except when it was raining. What a BIG PLACE.

Valdez in December

Taken in Valdez early December 2009. Few people get to see it in the winter.

Do some of the teen age kids earn money shoveling snow off the boats in the winter?

Valdez gets a ton of snow in the Winter, so I'm sure some enterprising individual is doing it. I was down there on business that day. I live in Fairbanks.

I love Alaska and can't wait to go again. I love everyone's pics and could look at them all day.

I live in Florida though my family has property outside of Talkeetna.
For now we have to fly, and those tickets aren't cheap! Unfortunately we don't get to go often
Also unfortunately, none of these pics have a bike in them. One day I'll ride to the property.

View from the front of our property :)

We built a cabin a few years ago. Only accessible by atv/bike/snowmachine or airplane. No electricity

I think I've seen this butte hiking around in the area earlier this year. Not nearly as nice of a pic, (but ) I think it's the same butte lined up with the airstrip in this picture I took;

My boat is in Whittier Harbor. Quite a few boats sink due to heavy snow loads. The weight of the snow often causes bilge pumps to back syphon. The harbor makes us have a local (who is bonded) do boat watch (shovel) in order to keep a boat in the water in winter.
Bumbelbee, If you live in Ottawa Ontario, it is much colder there than in much of Ak in the winter!
