Yeah, once you've tasted the Orange, it's hard to be satisfied with the others . I always wondered if you would have liked the T better from the beginning . I was disappointed that the new 690 Duke has a sportbike seat instead of the dirtbike seat on all earlier Dukes. I don't like being pinned behind a gastank like that when I'm riding around here. I wasn't aware that KTM was going to bring back supermotos to the USA. I better check the KTMUSA website (not that I'm going to buy one you understand. The three bike I have already altered should really be enough). I just checked KTMUSA. I see what they've done there. The new Duke really isn't a supermoto anymore so they have it listed under NAKED BIKE. And the SMT is still called a supermoto, but they have it listed under TRAVEL. By the way, one of the local riders, Matthew, told me about the new Vortex CDI/ECU unit for the 690. I installed one on my 690 SMC and it is FANTASTIC . I had no idea that my 690 could run SO MUCH BETTER FASTER STRONGER than it did before. The throttle response is perfect. It's like having a new bike! It's just amazing . Are you going to the RDV in Hampton TN? One way or the other, ride your new SMT down here this summer. *

I knew the SMT was better for me from the practical side but seeing it side by side with the SMR I listened to the I gotta have this one side..lol....now the SMT fits both sides...not saying I am buying it ...but it is calling to me just like the SMR did....
Not sure about RDV but I will be riding in West Virginia the beginning of may... Taz1200 screwed with this post 01-19-2013 at 05:17 AM |

I had a selection, sold them ...now restocking...sold the SMR to a local riding buddy since I would still be able to ride it on occasion since his stable is about 16 bikes right now..I like the looks of the new SMT and it would better suit my riding area since I need to travel to get to the good roads..the bigger gas tank, screen, bags.etc would let me take the long weekend rides much easier....better for me but still would not say it being practical or even compromising.....

Hi Al,
My selection looks exactly like that except for the two on the ends. *

The stuff I gave him come with the smt anyway (handguards, windshield, better seat, ) except the skid plate crash bars and akra...I never liked how the crash bars and skid plate got in the way of changing the oil anyway so I would just put some frame sliders on this and if I use the akra I lose the attachment points for the bags so may not change anyway. I know it sounds much better with the akra but I would just see if I could live without it for a while. lol.The guy I sold the SMR to usually trades several bikes in a year and buy new ones so if he trades the SMR in I can take what I want back if I wanted to. I gave him the stock exhaust so he would swap it out since the dealer usually gets his blkes anyway. I still have the KTM tall bag, 16 tooth sprocket, ktm dry bag, extra smt luggage rack, motorex oil, filters... I just used my spending money to pay off the house so I would not run out and buy a new bike right after the show ..
So in about a month I will have my bike money and will be deciding if this is my new ride.. It's winter anyway and the vstrom handles my bad weather commuter duty ....so if I don't mention the " T " can I still hang out here or do I have to change to the SMT thread....lol
