I always thought burning bugs were caused by the back seat/battery.

I had buddys that were real bug nutz and I saw a couple of them catch fire when the rear seat springs contacted the battery mounted below from too many or to heavy passengers in the back.

Mint 71 Super Beetle. Not a spot of rust to be found. Pretty cool even with the girly color, if I must say so myself.

Nice on! I had a red 71 Super Beetle. That thing handled the winding Kelly Drive in Philly like a sportscar!

Ever notice how they ALL smell the same? Is it the seat material?

Remembering now, one of my old bugs (I had a bunch of 64-71's) had a fuel inlet pipe on the carb vibrate loose and leaked gas in my engine compartment. It burnt to the ground. I was about 18, so, of course, my fire extinguisher was empty.

I really like your Super, Pedro!

I had a 1966 VW Bug German made...1300cc and 6 volt. Loved it. Wished I would have never sold it. I recently almost bought another bug but had enough projects atm.

I had a nice '66 1300 in HS. Loved that bug. Fixed the lazy 6 volt system by installing an 8 volt marine battery (yes - 8 volt) and tweaking the voltage regulator to put out 8.3v -- worked like a champ. Starter cranked over really fast on cold mornings, blinkers blinked like crazy, all electrics were much improved.

Chuckleheads - Believe it or not - it did NOT catch on fire or melt anything down!

This 1600 DP '71 runs *really strong* - it's super fun, and I really like that it is bare bones stock and original.

TGIF!

I never fixed the 6 volt issue but I almost did. I bought, but never installed, and black box made by Radio Shack, that was a 6 Volt to 12 Volt converter. I found it the other day so I know where it is. Don't remember if it had the capacity to do much as far as amperage goes, but those slow wipers running faster would have been my first place to try it. I guess you remember the funny fuses in the fuse holder in front of your right knee then. I had to clean the contacts and twist the fues every now and then to get the headlights brighter.

Pete you've got me reminiscing about my old Beetle, yeah man back in '74 I was beatin' that Arab Oil Embargo in this puppy...all those trips to kindergarten every day, dontchaknow.

Altho, truth be known, even back then I was dreaming about this right here:

Loved me some Road Runner when I was a little kid. The car and the cartoon
