Hey! Thanks for the recent replies. I can't believe it's been almost a year since we did this trip. I may get a chance to share some of the same trails with someone else this summer. We'll see...

I really wanted Matthew to remember this ride. So I logged onto blurb.com and turned this RR into a picture book. I even included all of the comments from you guys (except the recent ones, of course). I then ordered 2 copies. One for me and one for Matthew to keep.

You can preview the entire book here: The Best of the Grand Canyon with my Son, A Five Day Motorcycle Adventure, June 2011

I thought I would share this in case any of you may want to save your own memories.

GPS coordinates?

Dave, the book is a genius idea. What a treasure for both you and your son.

Eddie98 & I will be riding west from Georgia this summer...I've showed him this picture several times and said "we're setting up camp right here, in this EXACT spot". He's mapped it out as best he could based on your report. You wouldn't happen to have the GPS coordinates would you?

Hi Vixen. That exact spot is camping space #7 in the Toroweap campground near Toroweap Overlook and the Tuweep Ranger Station. The campsites are first come first served. I've camped here 3 times, twice in #7. Even on the weekends the campsites were not all taken. Oh, It's FREE! (I don't do much w/gps so I probably have a coordinate somewhere, but wouldn't know how to find it.)

Awesome trip!...
The best ride I've had to date was with my son, both of us on ZX10's from Oklahoma to Arkansas and back... playin' in the twisties.
Little bugger just ran away from me mostly, hehe.... But since he's a 'few years younger', it was expected....and he's a
better rider anyway, ha! (that 24 year span does make a difference in how you look at the next corner!)
Great memories aren't they?

Great pictures and ride report. I took my son on a trip to the South Rim one year. We left from San Diego at about 8 am in early September. HOT HOT HOT. I didn't get near the great pictures you got. His memory from the trip was when a rabbit committed suicide by running into the side of my bike. He said "Dad, something warm and gooey hit my leg." He's 27 now and rides a Buell. Thinks he can outrun the old man every time we go out, only to be severely disappointed.

perfect! Thanks so much...lucky number 7, fingers crossed it will be available when we pass through, otherwise I'll have to bribe whoever beat us to it to give it up

Looking at the book, I sort of wish you could sell it at NPS gift shops-so other mc riding parents might see it's possible to take their kids to the park on a motorcycle.

Great book!
