The Translab and Newfoundland on an 04 V-Strom

My Grandfather was from Trap Cove / Battle Harbour Labrador. In 1941 he joined the RAF. Because of his size he became a tail gunner. He met my Grandmother in Dumfries, Scotland at 10 Gunnery School and they got married soon after. He was shot down June 24th 1943 returning from a raid on Wupertahl in the Ruhr region. They only recovered his body and the body of the pilot (76 Miles up the coast). His remains are interred in Bergen, The Netherlands.

The idea for the ride was to do the Translab and take the ferry to Batle Harbour and if possible Trap Cove, Labrador and collect rocks from the beach to place on his grave next year. Any family history that I could pick up from local lore would be a bonus.

Rather than post up all of my ramblings again on ADV I figure I'll just post up the blog links instead.

Thanks Vlad. Any word on the final fate of Majesty? Plus, we should grab a beer sometime.

I left Her Majesty (I call it that because it's my wife's bike) with a fellow rider and a mechanic in New Brunswick to be sold, as a whole or in pieces. The engine has seized badly and it's just a matter of getting as much money out of it as possible. I am so thoroughly impressed with that bike that I'm shopping for a new one. This time it will be His Majesty :)

I almost forgot that we are neighbors. I'm in High Park, will drop you a note and we'll meet for sure.

Loving your blog....

I rode the Trans-Lab last year and was about halfway across the HV-Goose Bay to Port Hope Simpson run when I had a spill and didn't get to finish it...so getting the full story is really interesting. Great ride report, thanks so much for sharing! Wishing you safe and happy riding!

That sucks. Richard, the guy I was riding with for that section described it as the longest 109 kilometers of his life. It definitely became an endurance test. Hope there were no lasting effects from your spill.
