HWY 1 Huntington Beach to Folsom, CA <---On a Daytona 675! WTF

Hey everyone! It's been a while since I have done a major trip of any kind on the bike. The last trip was was pretty short compared to my new one. About 2 or 3 weeks ago I was laid off from ASV Inventions due to lack of funding for my positions <----- Short Story ----Company is on hard times

I have been itching to go home and see my family seeing I haven't seen my mom in months and coming from a close family that feels like to long. Anyways between the cost of air fair and driving my 91 Jeep Cherokee, the thought of taking a few days to get home and riding my motorcycle just seems so logical.

My sister just came down to visit for a few days and when she drove back she took a suitcase and my camping equipment for a family vacation in July which will lighten the load.

I am planning on taking two days to get there which I know for some of you that is too long but I have no schedule and want to enjoy the ride and also not burn myself out. My tires have plenty of meat on them and I am planning on doing an oil change since I am around the 3500 mark between changes. I am going to look over the chain again to make sure the tension is correct and I have plenty of brake pad left.. .

Looking for feedback on what I should bring and also make sure I check on the bike before I leave.

( I will have my Triumph Panniers, Core-Tech Duffle bag on passenger seat and possibly my tank bag)

I noticed you were heading up Hwy 1 past Cambria to the Nacimiento-Furgusson and over to 101. You may want to double-check on that route. I was up there in early May and tried the same thing but they had Hwy 1 blocked a few miles before the N-F turnoff. I had to go back down to Cambria and over to the 101.

Thumb

Yeah sh** happens and honestly I'm not bitter kinda happy it's been a really nice vacation!

Hank Williams Jr. on Pandora and let the packing begin!

Picked up a few things at Cycle Gear
1. Tire repair kit from Cycle Gear. 60$ Ouch!
2. Moto Jumper Cables. $18.00
3. Balaclava and Glove liners that are wind proof and on clearance $13.00
REI
1: Padded Bike Shorts that should make my balls and ass happy! $50
2. Super breathable shirt that is long sleeve $34.00
Best Buy
1: 8GB SD Memory Card! $16.00 with tax! I thought I was stealing it for that price. I can now take 3000 photos with a 7.1 mega pixel camera

Btw in my opinion cycle gear has gone down hill since bringing their own gear line up. No choices of really anything now.

Gonna be staying in San Luis Obispo for the first night so first day will be really easy and give me a good shake down for the rest of the trip! Hopefully Hwy 1 stay open keep your fingers crossed.

------

All packed up and just need to load the gear on the bike and test the suspension. I am pretty sure I am gonna have to add some preload into the rear spring and also 1 full turn on the front forks for preload.

Top duffle bag weighs in at 20 lbs with laptop
side panniers are both around 12 to 13 lbs each.

gonna run 34 psi rear and 32 front on michelin pilot power 2 cts!

Well the day has come and when I was laying my head down on the pillow and closing my eyes it finally set in what I was about to embark on.

Woke up around 8:30 made some eggs and then started to repack my bags because I have having issues fitting everything in the panniers and my duffle. Once I rearranged everything and was happy with how it was packed I started to carry everything down to the garage.

First thing I need to do was put the bike on jack stands which will allow the rear swing arm to be in full droop with out touching the ground. Once I had to stable and happy with how it was sitting it was time to crank down the spring preload and stiffen up the rear. About 2 months ago I bought a Racetech rear spring to comply with my 155lb frame before gear. The stock spring is rated for 200lbs which is way to stiff and will throw you all over the place.
final things left to pack

Loaded up

From the front

GPS RAM Mount with Garmin Nuvi 660

She's Got a big ass

Hopped onto her and damn she felt heavy and suspension felt pretty soft still.... oh well

Of course I go to start my bike and nothing!!! FACK! I've been having battery issues and limping along with a weak battery that needs to be replaced but being laid off hasen't helped...... So I pull my Jeep into the garage pull out the jumper cables and BAM she jumps to life! I was gonna fill up in Huntington but being afraid she wouldn't start I just decided to continue on and make my way to Malibu!

Riding on the 405 I always feel like a clown in a Rodeo! Doing my best to stay away from the crazy cagers and try and not get ran over when traffic comes to a stall! Thank god for lane splitting nothing scares me more than having to put my foot down on a road where the average cager and bike are doing 80 mph.
Things were going great except for that my gps wanted to take me to the 101 and I wanted to hit HWY 1 !!! Scan my GPS and see the 10 freeway and jumped onto her and made my way down to HWY 1.
The smell of the ocean when it hits your senses is so strong it's like a drug and you just want to breath in really deep and just feel the coldness hit your lungs. Feeling the cool air hitting my jacket and going over my helmet and down my back brought the hair on my skin standing straight up. I looked to my right and just watched the waves crash onto the beach and the smell of salt fill my nose. The helmet felt tight as a huge smile took over and all I could do was laugh! I yelled out loud in excitement here I am on HWY 1 with my bike, bags are packed and life in swing. No job, not much to my name and just enough money to get me to my destination. Still trying to figure out how I am gonna pay rent next month. Hopefully unemployment comes through and gives me a helping hand. I had a month of work lined up and it was big job with a huge return. I had this weird feeling that it might be just to good to be true and well it was. They called me last week letting me know that they want to bring me out for training but I won't be getting the job..... Damn... It was the feeling of a good swift kick in the balls or a nice jab to the stomach to knock the wind out of you.
I have been determined to not let it get to me and just keep emailing and checking in with the companies to find out when more work be be available.

For the first time in a long time that feeling of being free and no cares and my mind as ease HWY 1 and the ocean brought that feeling to me. Making my way through Malibu I stopped and got gas.

Sena hooked up to my iphone 4 and blasting Stevie Ray Vaughn on Pandora!! Plus I can answer and make calls and change songs all on the go! A Must HAVE!

Off to bed Im wiped

Santa Barbra

Once I got away from the coast the temps went way up making for a warm ride. I tried not to stop much an there wasn't much to picture making my way over to the 101 to San Luis Obispo.
