2200rpm rattle from upper end ?

Anyone else have this. I hear it when going slower (less wind noise). starts at about 2000 rpm and sounds like upper end rattle. This is a new 990 and my first ktm twin so it may be normal ?

Also wondered if anyone can tell me if my 450exc shim kit will also work on the 990 ?

Thank you in advance.

Go around and check/re-torque all bolts. It's common for bikes to leave the dealer with loose bolts.

Re: shim kit, yes, KTM part #60036035010 is suitable for the 450/530 EXC-R/690/950/1190.

HD V Rod shims will work too, on the 2007 model IIRC, should be the same as the new model I reckon, 10 mm. Cheaper too, about $2.50 a shim and they come in half sizes as well so you can buy a whole mess of sizes for half the price of a KTM shim kit.

Also sometimes the skid plate (if aftermarket) will rattle about like that so its something worth checking.

One more thing to note is that the LC8 is noisy motor. Mine rattles like a can full of rocks, but I dont notice it anymore.

Cruising RPM

I just finished breaking in my new Dakar - now at 899 miles. My experience so far is that the engine really does not like to run below 3000 rpm with any amount of throttle. Coasting is ok of course. The engine is really happy at 4000 rpm and above. 2000 rpm is way too low in a high gear.

I am talking about 1st & 2nd gear. If I am going fast I cant hear it because of the wind noise. Plus I dont dog it when running higher gears.
