BYOB 2012? Were to now?

After a fairly successful BYOB in Marlinton WVA in 2011.

I suspect it is part of my responsibility to align the moon and stars for 2012.

So the question is.

Where should we go to now?

Requirements for the formula are fairly simple.

A remote Hotel/motel that can handle roughly 125 folks.
Camping acceptable.

Dining/bar near by, walking distance would be best.

Great roads, most important of all.

Your responsibility

Help locate a place.

remember we don't need to lock a location till December.

Please, let the location scouting begin

Marlinton will be a tough act to follow. Anyone who disagrees or feels the need to complain that the waitress didn't blow them under the table while serving filet and lobster is welcome to take over and prove they can do better. BTDT twice. It isn't always easy.

Marlinton was great. You guys did an awesome job. The location is pretty well central to the target audience. The roads were fantastic. I don't know how it could get much better. Wouldn't hurt my feelings at all to go back.

Other than that I got nuthin'

I am curious about the Gettysburg area, unfamiliar with the area, just interested in the history. I also think Watkins Glen is a great spot...if we can find a suitable location.

We might take a different route to get there next time.

It's pretty hard to beat the Marlinton Motor Inn given all the great riding in the area and the ability of the hotel to handle a large group (hard to find in rural areas). Plus it's clean, cheap, has a pool and they don't mind parking lot parties. Gas next door. The on-site restaurant/bar is convenient despite being mediocre.

There's a ton of great street riding out of Marietta, OH too and the area (Wayne Natl Forest) hosts several AMA dual-sport events, so there has to be plenty of dirt to explore too. Might find some worthy options in that region.

Gettysburg itself is interesting, but the local riding is nothing to brag about. South central PA does not have all that much in the way of good roads. Now, if you want touristy type sight seeing and lots of history, you will not be disappointed.

I can do some checking on local lodging if the inmates are interested, but this area would not be my first choice.

The idea of a rolling rally is one to hold onto, the logistics might be a bitch. some folks would spend their whole weekend trying to find us...

I am knocking a place around in the Ligoner PA area. Laural Highlands.

Really would like to locate a place either down around Marion/Tazewell, or around North Bend state park in WVA.

Not against a return to Marlinton but... this rally's history calls for a move to other green pasture's

Keep brain storming And looking

I liked the MMI. My room was very clean and you can't beat the price. My food at the restaurant Friday was pretty good and Saturday's meal was edible. The ladies at the desk were cheerful and the housekeeper rocked. The band was pretty good too. West Virginia does a good job keeping their roads in good condition.

I like riding to and in West Virginia so I look forward to BYOB returning there again in the future. Regardless of the location, I'll see y'all next year!

One note of thought - Marion/Tazewell is getting down there near the RDV .

I really can't recommend North Bend. The place itself is isolated which is good, but having attended a small rally there I recall it being a pain in the ass for supplies & gas. Compared to the other side of WVA the riding is uninspiring.

Hey you read my mind !! I was thinking the same thing.. But the camping would have to be in another area like "Lake Witten" Also in Tazewell... There are 2 motels in Tazewell.. 1 is a little better then the other..

Breaks Interstate park has Camping /cabins/motel...

Then there is Pipe Stem Park.. That has also the same as BIP...

Hungry Mother State park..

Just giving ya'll ideas

Anyone know of any places up near Hancock, NY? It's right at the beginning of the Delaware River and has access to PA,NY and upper portion of NJ. All great road riding and tons off gravel, dirt and even single track riding....

There is also a great area in upstate NY called Old Forge and although the town itself is a bit crowded there are hoards of smaller local motels that would love such an event.

A couple of suggestions off the top of my head would be...

SE Ohio/Wayne Nat Forest

The riding and roads are spectacular. The reason some don't know this is because many of us don't tell. Many of the drainages in and out of the Ohio R. basin are knee draggin bliss.

Central / S.Central PA.

Skyclad must be forgetting about all the twisty mountain passes, Bald Eagle, Rothrock, Tuscarora, Michaux and Buchanan State Forests. Nobody left his and Intrigue's 7mtn event w/out a smile. If he's not bragging it's because he's modest.

Laurel Highlands in SWPA

Plenty of good riding here, not as good as WV or NCPA, but I'm sure no one would leave there dissapointed. Dan knows this.

My two most liked areas for riding are the mountains of WV and NCPA. We have done both in the past two years and now it's time to try other areas.

Laurel Highlands/Ligonier area could be really fun. Really close to Pittsburgh and not nearly as isolated, methinks, however I usually visit that area mostly during ski season so I can fall down the hill at Seven Springs. Have no idea how busy it is there in the Spring.

The area near North Bend would be good for me, but only because it's close. There is a lot of decent gravel and twisties nearby, but as Bueller said, it's not nearly as inspring as the areas surrounding Marlinton or Seneca Rocks.

Someone else mentioned marietta... some relatively good twisties there. My home area. But not nearly as Scenic as those parts of WV we just visited.

What about that Motel & Restaurant/BBQ shack in Franklin, WV?
