ADV Riders in Chile

I'm currently in Peru, but heading south. I'll be passing through Chile the third and forth weeks in February. I hope to see a few of you along the way. I'll probably be following the PanAmerican, but I'm always open to route suggestions.

Hola hola! Un gusto haber encontrado a gente Chile aquí en ADV. Mi nombre es Eduardo, por el momento viviendo en Australia. Les cuento esto planeando hacer mi primer viaje desde Santiago hasta Ushuaia.
Tengo fecha para feb-marz próx año

You should consider visiting the Lakes Region in Chile, then cross the Andes to Bariloche, go down on Ruta 40, El Calafate, back to Chile to Torres del Paine park, then acress the Strait of Magellan to Ushuaia.

Hey Troy,
if you have time, there are loads of D-tours you should make on your way south. try to avoid the Ruta 5 if you are not in a hurry. cross from Chile to Argentina back and forth as much as you can and your maps show you that there are roads. you will realize its absolutly worth it.
if you want some details information send me a PM and can forward you some ideas. for the north, for the south down to Ushuaia - you will love the ride, best scenery and nice people everywhere getting better the further south you go - I am in the South - Temuco - Pucon area, let me know when you get close and lets meet up for a weekend.
I will do a trip From Temuco south, the northern part of the Carretera Austral in the third and fourth week of March.

Hey guys, I've been to Chile a few times and have considered becoming an expat, may I ask what you other expats do for work?

loads of things to do in Chile - depends a bit what you know to do - loads of OZ's working in mining, other Expads in Forestry, Fish industry, Tourism, trade,...... any idea what you would like to do?
A Friend of mine has a company that organices internships for foreigners in Chile and other counthries in SA
http://www.chileinside.cl/ maybe they can help you out - not really for expats, but a good option to start maybe.
they organize language lessons, housing, different kind of jobs and practicas,...
Or the other option is you aply for a job from there or even for an australian company that needs guys in Chile,..

Still we have space on our container leaving 3rd week of March 2012 from Santiago /Valparaiso to Los Angeles. Due March 14th for delivery in Santiago.

We're coming to Chile end of feb. The plan is to stay a few weeks in Valpo and learn spanish...
Hope we get our bikes out of the port by mid march.

Going up north first and south by the end of the year. Would be nice to meet a few local ADVriders!!

Hey B!

Sorry I didn't get to share a beer after my Dakar trip last month. My WR 250R is tucked up in a shed in Temuco waiting for another ride in mid March. I didn't have much tme before heading back to the Falklands.



Still have to put together a ride report of my trip to Catch the Dakar. It was a great driving force to make me get things together and actually ride in Chile at last. Argentina too of course.

Here's Despres at the Passo San Francisco Chilean Aduano, and the even more famous Neduro (81) checking through!


I can tell you that the WR250R is a great little moto for Chile....for gravel roads, or for Ruta 5....Tongoy to Temuco in one day!

looking forward to seeing you on your next trip to Temuco - see you get a famous visitor on the island ;-) hope your neighbours won’t get foolish and even more anoied about the whole thing.
I can see you have US licence plates on your bike, how are you going to do that if you r leaving and coming back the next time? I thought in Chile that is not possible. would be interesting to hear how you solved that.
looking forward to a beer or so before I go on a trip (want to join? we are already a group of 5. 18 of March to 01 of April aprox)
