Spinal Maladies

Hello Sheldon-

I'm gutted to hear you spine is causing issues. Been there, done that for the better part of a decade.

A misspent youth in action sports left me with increasing debilitation for over an eight and a half year period. The prognosis from a wide variety of neurosurgeons and spinal specialists was not encouraging.

Long story short...8.5 years of research, countless MRI, eight specialists, finally a flight to Colorado (on my dime) to visit an amazing specialist and I ended up with an accurate diagnosis. Spinal treatment in the U.S. is in the dark ages.

Please PM me if your interested in chatting. I'm fours year post OP (Germany) and 100% pain free. Enough to go tear the $#!T out of myself on the mountain bike (shattered clavical, C6 spinal fracture, perforated scapula and torn rotator cuff) last summer with no ill effect on the spinal reconstruction.

Yes, I'm an idiot.

How far did you have to ride on that cord bare rear tire before you found a replacement?

I'm still on it, has got me to Curitiba for the Australia Spain game, will change it here after putting another 700 ks on it since this photo its a lot worse now Ill upload a picture later when we have better internet. I run mid range heavy duty tubes so that helps. Riding from Florianopolis north the other day we got some rain so that was a bit iffey with a tyre like that.

Love Your Outlook Generally

I'm way too uptight generally - but think you sometimes forget you're not responsible for only your safety. And I think that's going to bite your ass... talking about your tire...

world cup

Hey Eva and Sheldon,

your Aussie team did great in the world cup, next time you 'll go for 2nd round.... you 'll see

So now that your team has gone home you 'r welcome to support Belgium, also a small underdog team. You could drink a great Belgian beer every time they score... or even if they don 't score.... ( we do...)

Still love your RR.... and whenever in Belgium there will be beer waiting for you....

Mories...

While you are in Curitiba it would be worth getting the bike fully checked. If you are planning on Argentina you need to as a break down will leave you f**ked for spares due to importation controls.

I'm not joking with this, I have personal experience that is still ongoing after 3 months, it'll cost you A LOT of time and money if you have any problems that need bike specific components that can't be bodged.

Contingency plans to get you into Chile worth looking at as that's the closest place to get sorted when you are in south or west Argentina.

cheers dave

Yeah I understand your concerns but don't worry to much mate if I had tubeless tires that would of been changed long ago but running with heavy duty inner tubes it was pretty much safe, didn't really have much option other than put it on a truck and im not going to spend 500 bucks when I know the tire is fine for a little while longer, Ev puts her trust in me to make the right decisions on our welfare when it comes to the bike and riding and although I can be a lunatic at times I back my judgment on things in that regard and this was another one of them. Just to make you feel better I turned the ABS off just in case so if there was a problem I could a do a front end wheelie to bring us to a stop safely

Here's a pic as we got it changed today.

Will do Mories Belgium have a good team lets hope they progress right through, there is one thing that this world cup has shown and that is there is a fine line between all the teams these days and it is coming down to some individual brilliance. Enjoy mate

Got some money to spend on the bike in the next little while, new clutch plates, new rear disc and got new tires today so will get them to give it a good going over as I always do. It's going to cost me a pretty penny all up but it is worth it in the long run to know I will get there, where ever there is. Thanks for the advice Dave

Thanks for the ideas A7an its been giving me hell lately but I'll wear it for a while yet it has been cooler which Im sure isn't helping. As for the extra ratings thanks guys you have made this disabled guy feel so much better about himself and given me a new lease of life I might go hunt down some pretty little felines with my new found sense of worth, oh shit I forget Ewa is sitting next to me damn it it will have to wait ssshhhhhhh just don't tell her.

You can tell we were upset with the loss to the Spaniards cant you, the boys although playing well below their best and of course not being allowed to by the Spanish team had an amazing world cup and did all Australia soccer fans proud, but for us it was time to party.

Stoney hating life in Brazil.

Meeting a couple of the local bikers while out partying.

The Spaniards weren't really in a celebratory mood like us Aussies after being eliminated in the first round but they had a bit of a go.

The cemeteries are going to have to come soon I'm pretty sure I'm in debt. We actually passed a couple on the highway which would of been perfect for a ciggie break and credits for me and Ev would of got to walk around and look at everything in the cemetery but I really didn't really want to stop and look how bad the tire was again. Cemeteries for perving at chicks obviously the girl is pretty weird but I guess everyone already knows that cause she's with me.

we are having a few days off in Curitiba relaxing today after going to the Russia Algeria match last night, it certainly feels good to be off any time frame again.
