"Forbidden Fruit"

Headed out early on this December the eighth
Loaded up bikes at Drymike's place
Riders were chosen strict on decree
Or whoever it seems had this day free
A ride near Galena was Cauldrons debut
The land of the hills, Chains forbidden fruit
The bikes were jammed in the back of the truck
A little 250 in the middle was stuck
Packed in so tight the rides and the gear
3 helmets, six boots, some goggles, and beer
All was in order as we headed up North
Taking the long way, then back, and then forth
We trusted the routing to Map Quest, you see
Not using the maps beside of me
Paid a quick visit to the quad cities and hustle
Stopped for some coffee and breakfast did rustle
A call from the Skinner came over the phone
Chicago crew was early and wouldn't postpone
New tires from Sinc for us to enjoy
Christmas come came early for the dirt biker boys
The Fist he assembled, while Skadamo added oil
Tasks all part of pre riding toil
Chain was complaining about unpreparedness
“How can they ride when their rides are a mess?”
The karma you know was soon to set in
Would Chain be denied of this ride once again?
For whining and moaning on behalf of his friends
His throttle was sticking, it looked like the end
This couldn’t be true
For complaining about others, his time had come due
The Fist fixed his bike while riders unload ( good idea)
Chain was stuck fixing on the side of the road
Cards were all dealt and rightfully so
All others would ride and leave Chain in his woe
The crew hit hills of beauty for sure
While Chain limped to town, in search of a cure
In the back of a bicycle shop he found a small bench
With parts and some pieces, to help in a pinch
File on this and solder on that it was better than new for a buck and a half
Back on the road, Dakar running just fine
Was it possible he’d see Galena this time?
Rounding a left, deep in a lean
It caught his eye, how could this be
The oil light was lit, this could be real bad
He thought of the bike and the times they had had
Should he light it on fire and walk back to the truck?
Or go on and ride in spite of his luck?
Gone on and ride that was the call
Head up to Chestnut for lunch with them all
Lunch and a Pint would sort all this out
Refusing to whine and enjoy nice Stout
So we laughed and we joked over burgers and beer
Solved the worlds problems and grinded our gears
Left in a race our group now complete
Headed out east to get off the street
Into the gravel with rocks and mud slinging
Burning through turns with chain rings a singing
Wide to the left and low to the right
When Skinner rolled on he pulled out of site
115mph on gravel
you say it aint so?
I was behind him but not before Joe ( Vstromrunner)
Tears were flowing from my eyes I believe
Caused by the force of a mega geese breeze
Up over the hills and down through the valleys we rode like True Grit
Not like some Sallys
Sometimes the road abruptly would end taking us places we’d already been
And so it went all the daylong
We rode until dusk and started at dawn
Back to the lot in Savanna we rode
The gear and our bikes we had to reload
Dinner from Skinner and beers from the Chain
We all said goodbye, we’d do it again
And so it seems, Chain never shall know
If Galena is quaint
Or a lousy shit hole

Enjoyed reading your limerick form
as time draws nearer to Christmas morn
sounds like you had fun
despite your bad luck run
I'll be riding this weekend too
with some friends old and new
a report will be forthcoming but I doubt if it will rhyme
for limericks are hard and take too much of my time

There was a suggestion at lunch to move the ride to Galena or some other Lodge local with a hot tub and bar. It might make for a better turn out.
Pier Marquette State Park down near Alton would also be a good, more southerly choice.
just passing on a concensus. you are welcome at the Farm

hot tub, hooch, cabins, blue nose site for them that wants them - Galena it is.

I'll get with you in the next couple of days on it.
