We will be heading to the Arctic Circle, but I haven't decided if I am going to continue on to Dead Horse. My grandfather made the trek several years ago and doesn't care to again, so if I go, it is just me, the 1000, and a big gas can!

Yesterday we left from Dawson Creek and decided to head through Hudson Hope. My family has a great deal of history in this little town. My father started elementary school here before they moved back to the states. My grandfather was a Superintendent for the WAC Bennett Dam back in the 1960's. We made our way through the rain to the dam where we were able to take the tour of the powerhouse. This was a great opportunity as it is much more difficult to get a tour like this in the states after 9/11. I snapped a few photos in the rain, we crossed the dam, and then we were on our way to Fort Nelson where we stayed the night.
Today we had much better weather. There was light rain sporatically but for the most part we had a great day to ride. We stopped into Liard and relaxed in the hot springs after putting on some miles. Some of the springs were so hot I couldn't hardly put my feet in. It was a great way to break up the day of riding and take in the sun for awhile. After leaving the hot springs, we saw caribou, sheep, bison, bears and horses all either alongside the road or on the road! I stopped and snapped several photos where I could. The animals just look at you like you're from another planet and go about their business, so pretty much the same look most people give me when they see me in full leathers. We are staying tonight in Watson Lake where they have the famous signpost forest. I met a guy staying at our motel that is riding from Brazil to Alaska, makes my trip seem like small potatoes. It is now 11:00 PM and it is still light out, so I need to close the blinds and catch some shut eye for the ride to Whitehorse tomorrow.

Well, I typed an update today, but lost it due to an error when I clicked submit. Ahh, technology is wonderful, but only when it works. Anyway, long story short I needed an oil change yesterday so I pulled into the local NAPA dealer and asked if he would lend me a pan after buying the oil there. He said "no problem, eh", so I had my oil changed in 15 minutes costing me less than a tank of fuel (fuel is more than $6/gallon here). My grandfather and I then had a drink with a local tug boat operator on holiday and a younger guy that was in town working on Caterpillar equipment used for copper mining. We then took in a local show, had some excellent italian, and retired for the night.
Today we decided to take the opportunity to visit all the local museums. I really enjoyed this and didn't realize how much history was here around the gold rush and the Alaska Highway. We also toured the local Yukon brewery and sampled some great beer. My favorite was the Lead Dog, which was dark and complex, very unique! Tonight we will hear a singer/songwriter accompanied by a violinist from the Northwest Territories and then we are off to Tok in the morning.
