Been subscribed since the begining of the thread. You and Hobbes are part of the reason I sold my KLR and purchased a new Tiger 800. If you are ever in the Pueblo CO area drop me a line and we can hit up some twistey canyons and mountain runs.

I was able to sleep in for a little while. Then, thoughts of her crept into my dreams and woke me from my slumber. Trevor and Kathleen were up shortly after me. We had a leisurely morning planning the route for the day as Kathleen made breakfast for us.

Things were a little slow getting ready and we finally hit the road at about 11:30. I had a long ways to go.

We decided on a Northerly route and would meet back up with the highway at Mitchell, OR where I would go East and Trevor and 'Leen would go West.

Smith Rock. A climbing mecca in the area. Not my cup of tea. I need speed.

Kathleen is such a good girl. My brother is so lucky to have a woman that not only does, but wants to do this stuff with him. And on the back of a KLX 650 no less.

After awhile on Ramms road we hit gravel on Hay Creek. Also ruts. Oh yeah and we passed a sign that said "Road closed in inclement weather. Local Traffic Only."

The weather wasn't terrible. It was actually kinda warm compared to last few days and 600 miles. But it had rained. MUD!!!

I saw this one coming. Trev was going way too fast. Did I mention that Kathleen rocks to put up with this??

We briefly discussed turning around due to the unknown possible hardships ahead. I did have to get home today and it was already 12:30. If it stayed muddy it could take hours to get just a few miles.

"I don't think I can get Hobbes back up that hill we just came down."

Freeze. A little editorial. These are the moments that I really love about DSing. Can't go back, but ahead might be worse. Or the worst could be behind. Those few moments when you wonder why the hell you're out here. And then you remember, you're out here for this exact reason. You're out here to challenge your mind, body, and machine to continue riding. Failure is not an option. This is what makes us so much more badass than those Harley fags that go bar to bar and stay in hotels. We are better and stronger people because of this.

"Well, I'm about 80% for going forward."

I reply, "90%"

Onward. And you know what? It dried out and was perfect.

We're now on Ashwood Rd. and heading into the hills. It has been awhile since I've been in the mountains. There's snow everywhere else and it was fun for a change of pace. Desert riding and mountain riding are very different.

I was completely in awe of the view of Mt. Hood we got. This was totally unexpected and very welcome. We stopped here for a bit. Trev wasn't feeling that well and ate some pepto. Hobbes kept trying to lay down. The road was really soft and the kickstand just sank.

Photobucket

In Ashwood, we crossed Trout creek and picked up Gosner Rd.

This always means fun is ahead.

We had stopped to chat for a second and when we started rolling, we were both gonna just dump the clutch to bump start. Neither one of did and we had a power off gravity race for a mile or two. It was kinda fun.

It's actually getting warm and the sun is out a bit! Man it feels good. The views have been incredible. This is very cool area.

Usually when I take a ton of pics like I was here, it's really pretty and I don't ever wanna forget a single turn or vista.

When Trevor rode by me here, the steam coming off his bike actually fogged my gauge cluster. I thought it was kinda funny.

How much force did it take for those vertical rock layers to push those horizontal rock layers up like that?

The John Day River.

We got gas in Mitchell, even though neither one of us really needed it. I owe Trevor ten bucks cause I didn't have any cash. Mitchell is one of those places that looks at you funny when you pull out a credit card.

We had a power bar and said good bye.

"Til next time brother. Love ya."

Now my solo journey continues the remaining 230 miles to Boise. Headphones back in with my sad country.

Why does it always have to fucking rain when I go over the Blue mountains? Seriously, I hit rain or snow 75% of the time. Good thing I got Gore Tex and my heated vest.

More rain at Ontario, OR.

That's how my trip ended. In the rain and cold. And when I got home it got even colder. We hadn't even officially broken up yet. She just told me she wasn't sure she was ready for the awesomeness that is a life with Tyson. I'm paraphrasing, but the bottom line was she told me I'm everything she's looking for, but she's not ready for it. All weekend I was sad and thinking about her, but I was still a little optimistic she would come around.

I had only had my helmet off for 15 minutes when she called and made it official. I need to go for another ride....

Looks like a good trip! Thanks for Sharing.
It still amazes me how much better Oregon's roads are than Idaho's. Most of their gravel roads are smoother than our paved roads.

love the RR and pics. I'm looking for a Tiger and reading your stuff doesn't help

Amazing country you live in and the roads you find.

If you ever make your way east to VA, there's a bunch of us that will buy you a beer!

Still catching up on your latest installment here. I tried to read it on my phone while sitting in the bathroom last night but it just wasn't the same.

Wanted to point out that when I go to day trips and sort the 2096 threads by view count, you're right there toward the top of the first page! God, I know I'm always eager to see what dumass thing you've done lately.

(and yeah, I'm still finishing up the report of our ride you know, "ride your own ride," "report your own report" I'm just slow)

Sorry to hear about the phone call...
We'll be in the Crooked River Valley if you need somewhere to go this weekend. No shame in trailering down...

This is true. I checked last night and I'm 15th in views and 11th in comments. That's pretty damn good. But yet, where's my 5 star Metaljockey rating? C'mon people let's get this thread five stars! Sure my photography isn't as finished as a few others out there like Signal's thread, but my stories and places I get my bike to have to be some of the best. Vote for Tyson and Hobbes!

And if anybody out there is doubting how much I plan to ride this summer, this should ease your fears. There will be plenty of stories to be had. That's $800 of rear tires for the summer. Just sitting in my garage waiting to be burned off.

You deserve it.
I already gave you 5*
Just to put a lil squash on the number of views.... UHhhh... If my thread is 8th in views with 42K hits, there is no way that quality enters the equation. ALTHOUGH .. there is a great deal of quality stuff here in daytrippin. I troll it every day and have met a mess of friends here from around the world.

I've got a few pics of your ol KLR with some bent crash bars, and few missing chunks of plastic you might like to see. I also have a few from later the same day where it drowned and got field stripped. I fucked up the video though, the camera powered down not 10 seconds before it went under.

Keep writing and posting
luv seeing the nut job on the thrashing on the big bike
Sounds like he's getting some great use out of my old bike. Post the pics up here in my thread! Don't feel like you're hijacking it.

There is a ton of great stuff here in Daytrippin. I'm so self absorbed (I'm and asshole like that) it gets to be awhile between my check ins with the other threads. Gotta work on that. Yours is great btw. Super pretty area to ride.
