Marty - here's my current trip plan in MS Streets and Trips - Mid June is my plan, so I can get to the D2D party in Dawson City. Some pretty long days going up, and a couple of long ones getting back to California. But I'm trying to hit some of the highlights recommended on the Adv Rider forum - Laird Hot Springs, D2D Dawson City, ferry over to Cordova/Childs Glacier, Denali flightseeing out of Healy, the Cassair and trying to include Fighter's route southbound out of Lake Louise after running the Icefields parkway on the homebound leg. Comments welcome since this is truly a work in progress.....Maps out at around 8500 miles without side trips in the 33 days I have off - around 250-275 daily....

What bikes are you riding?

I am planning a trip for next year, and just bought a BMW 1200 GS for the trip. What bikes are you all taking up? Also, what modofications have you done to prep for the trip?

I'm going on my 1200GS. I have the left and right BMW cases, left case - kitchen and food; right case - clothes and stuff. I take off the passenger seat and put a fabric ATV "horseshoe" case on the platform over the BMW cases with tent, chair, camping gear and stuff in it. I put my sleeping in the space for the horseshoe where the passenger seat was - it kind of makes a backrest. Wolfman tank bag has daily stuff and camera. Sun tank panniers with camelbak in left and rain gear and bike cover in the right. Worked really good last summer for trip to Spokane MOA, Lake Louise, Yellowstone, Adv Rider rally in Ouray and Grand Canyon. Looking to add the BMW engine guards, headlight guard, better tire repair kit and maybe a GPS for the Alaska trip. Had a great time last year and can't wait for this year's trip! Been lurking in Great White North A LOT! Bunch of great people here!

Riding Up North

I'm also headed north from Kalispell to Prudoe bay on August 8 of this summer
Sounds like several riders headed through this area on the way up.

Talking Why?

Hello Adv riders,

Why the Alaska hwy? Why not the Stewart/Cassiar instead of the boring hwy. Your missing some of the best and most scenic roads in BC.
I'm still planning my trip to Alaska in mid June. We'll see you all then on the road.

Ride Safe,
Rick

For me, the Alcan is a part of history, and a long-standing goal to accomplish. Everyone's recommendation on the Stewart-Cassiar put that on my return leg when I'll have more leisure time to explore. Alcan up and Cassiar back kind of kicked the Alaska Marine Highway ferry off - for this year's trip, anyway.

What visaliacraig said....to me, it's all about history. I've always wanted to ride Rt66 end to end and I did that last summer. And I've always wanted to ride the Alcan and this summer I get to do that........

Plus, if I ride all the roads there will be no reason to come back!
