Probably as long as a typical BMW final drive

Overall a pretty cool concept put into reality - and something I'd seriously look at if I couldn't get both feet down due to injury or illness

Figure the one wheel weighs twice as much now (cause it's two) and there are always friction losses from all those bearings (looks like at least 3 bearings and 4 constant velocity joints). Adds up to a lot more load. And what about turning corners? All kinds of twisting forces with that that don't occour normally on a motorcycle...

that is one hell of an ambitious endeavor... I'd love to see an FEA of that driving axle, betcha there's some hella big loads and stress concentrations there.


something about a motorbike with car tires turns me off though

If you mean because of the differing speeds of wheel rotation across the rear axle when turning corners, the site says that the sidecar wheel is drive via a viscous coupling. That should effectively do the job of a differential.
