Mine has cracked also!!

I checked today and noticed the same crack as on the foto, only longer, reaching the hole. I am waiting for the official answer of KTM Greece. My bike is 12/2003 with 39kkms.

Quick reply!!

I received yestarday the reply officially from my mechanic!! They can either weld the crack with argon or replace the whole frame under warranty!! I was also told that in case welding doesn;t work in the long run, they will come back in resolving the problem!! I am relieved!! Any '05 bikes developed the same problem??

It's been a year since I posted the above. I marked were the crack ended in 4-14-05, (or is it 14/4/05) ...any way; today 5-5-06 the crack is 1/8th an inch longer. I've put 12,000 miles on since I measured it back in 05.

I think all do nothing, and continue the experiment.

Yeap.. my 05.5 has BEHR rims on it too. Met a guy on Wednesday that had one hell of a bend in his front end from Baja.. I'd hate to have that happen on my trip. I've not yet checked my frame.. bike has only a couple of short trips on it and 4500 miles but something I want to look at when I do my next service.

Discussion On Crack

Yes,
I too have a crack. Both sides, same place.
In being welded as I speak.
I have a 2003s with 9,500 miles.
I thought it was something to do with the centre stand because I did not have this crack until I put the stand on. It was on for 50 miles and hey presto.
I have now removed the centre stand.
I do not know if they are related to each other but maybe others can think back on this.

good for you. i'm a participant in the experiment by lazy default. i too have had the crack for a long time. my theory is that, for this particular crack, if it had never been pointed out few of us would have noticed or cared. i'm further encouraged by no postings about broken off foot pegs or snapped frames or something relating to that crack - though i'm not a very thorough troll so perhaps i've missed something?

New (to me) 2004 Go!!! with 7000 miles

I've looked but mine is pristine.
As a matter of fact, I think those with the extremely heavy Touratech skidplate should mandatorily check their frame.
The skidplate would exert extreme stress on that part of the frame where it's hinged.

Good you moved on welding it!! I don't think it is centre stand related since that part seems quite strong, enough to withstand "static force". Mine didn't have the centerstand installed but the crack developed nevertheless. The crack seems to be related to dynamic forces (vibrations) which are easily applied from the engine mounting bolt, a couple of inches ahead. I suggest to all experiment oriented to have it fixed before it develops!! Since there is one with a double crack it seems it doesn't stop to develop, with obvious consequences on the stiffness of the frame, to mention the least!!
